wandavision is fun for me to watch because a tv show about a tv show that is collapsing inside itself it is my favorite genre of tv show. i keep thinking if it was not MCU how fun it would be to puzzle out theories or be wikiheaded about it. i am very grateful that it’s 30 minutes and plays the sitcom stuff with incredible earnestness. also i can’t believe we just had an entire generation of tv shows with no theme song and now they expect you to watch the entire 40 second marvel studios feature film logo before an episode of television. 6/10 watch beef house instead

Between the recap, the logo, the theme song, and the full 6.5 minute ending credits, I think each episode is probably around 20 minutes

I haven’t seen it but yeah, that WandaVision show sounds like the most conceptually interesting thing to come out of the MCU. Although, were people really that interested in Wanda and Vision as characters? Did people actually care about that relationship?
I remember them both being side characters in their introductory movies, and then suddenly in a movie a few years later they re-appeared as a couple (did they even know each other before?) just so they could kill Vision 3 minutes later and get his infinity gem out of the way. It felt extremely weird and out of nowhere for me, but were people invested in that relationship somehow? Am I forgetting some character development somewhere along the way?
I feel like this show is probably going to assume I already care about them rather than build their relationship like a stand alone story would, so I wonder how well it would really hit with me.

i’m actually kind of enjoying it because you know the resolution of all the shows mysteries is going to be some overly literal, dumbass shit like they’re all trapped inside a brain experiment created by HYDRA agents or something, where any of the more actually surrealistic inspirations for this type of thing would rely on some kind of magical realist vagueness. i mean, not that there’s anything wrong with that.
its just funny imagining something like a season of twin peaks where in the end they’re just like, as it turns out, the black lodge was none other than a plot by the nefarious doctor doom! tune in next week to see dale cooper punch him in the face!
though i guess the back end of twin peaks season 2 is kinda like that anyway

It’s a comic book thing, I dunno how the wider world perceived it but it was a big deal for a while in the comics so I think it happened because it was for comic nerds and Disney (correctly) assumed nobody would give a shit because these movies are so incoherent anyway that you just have to accept facts that are presented to you.

Also in my case I never saw Avengers 2, so I just kinda assumed they established it in that movie but I was hilariously wrong in retrospect. Wouldn’t shock me if most folks thought they did in whatever the one marvel movie they didn’t see was.
it mostly happens in civil war and infinity war (lots of wars in this series i guess) but its pretty uh minimal. i think it depends on you knowing that it’s a thing in the comics to make sense.
this is definitely true but i think my super power of still being able to enjoy them comes from feeling like everything in the world is pretty much this way also

Weekly. Right up until The Falcon and The Winter Soldier in March 19, 2021. Which goes right up to May 7th Black Widdow , which will follow with Loki in May, 2021, which will go right into Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in July 4, 2021, which will roll into What If…? in Summer of 2021, which will likely roll into either Hawkeye 2021 or Ms. Marvel leading up until Eternals on November 5th, which will run until Spider-man 3 on Dec. 17, 2021.

i thought i would like wandavision less when they revealed outside the sitcom but it turns out i have the right combination of investment in actual marvel comics and these loose ant-man and thor side characters from a decade ago to make it exactly my jam. i mean i know enough about the captain marvel movie and age of ultron through osmosis and i didn’t have to actually bother watching them. like i feel like i can tell that this show did a better job of the whole reverse rapture thing than spider-man 2 did and i have not even seen it. this whole show is just a zillion dollar episode of the brady bunch episode of the x-files and that’s exactly fine. honestly mostly what this show does is give me hope that She Hulk will be able to pull off just kind of weirdly existing in the mcu

Oh I was making a joke about anything in Annihilation being original to vandermeer, since its really just a riff on ballard’s crystal world (which was already lesser ballard)
I’m sure there is a ballard story that is exactly that, as there are already dozens of stories that are… almost that.
