A Breath of the Wild sequel without a wholly new map is weird to consider. Not necessarily bad — what can you do to play with the familiarity, make it uncanny a la Termina or the Great Sea — but so much of that game was the now-risible “see that mountain?” open world pitch made good. I want to lose track of the boundaries of the world.
I am here to bear sociological witness to Zelda lore nerds losing their minds about Zonai rock carving textures, though
I guess I shouldn’t be so shocked that the only thing I was excited about (and I was really excited about it) was Goldeneye online since the whole reason I’ve been paying for Gamepass for the past three years is for the Perfect Dark port.
In order to convince ourselves not to buy Splatoon 3 we played some 2 tonight. Lady Rude had a great time. She played it for 2 hours straight woah!
We both immediately remembered we hate the joycons. My hands all twisted and ruined from playing 3 rounds of a 3 minute game. Remember why I never turn the switch on.
I never did pick up on the Switch Cave releases but if I look really hard at my Steam account (Mushinesama) or my closet (ESPGaluda 2 360) I can make that feeling go away.
While waiting for a replacement pro controller for Splatoon I played with the joycons slid into the dock/grip attachment and it really feels like the dreamcast controller with all the finger gnarling that entailed. Would have thought they were more comfortable undocked but can’t see how gyro aiming would work, with all that wrist twisting
Oh yeah I had a moment of weakness this week and finally ordered a Switch but because I’m me and can’t do anything in a sensible way, I specifically got a tablet-only model that is hackable so I can play that weird Smash Ultimate mod HewDraw Remix
I’ve also got that Brook third-party dock with the built-in GameCube ports and Ethernet, as well as Split Pad Pros for handheld mode. It really isn’t like me to go fully third-party like this and I probably shouldn’t be allowed to spend money past 2am
third party accessories have actually gotten much, much better in the switch era than they’ve ever been before — I’d be curious to speculate as to why, but after 25 years of them being a very questionable buy outside of the occasional Hori product, that’s no longer really the case
the Wii U and Switch accept input from nearly any ol’ USB controller, broadening the amount of companies in the ecosystem, as opposed to Sony, who works very hard on trying to lock out third party options, and Microsoft, who is actively selling a 150 dollar controller
yeah, I think it’s probably the Nintendo factor (which obviously drove development of emulation more than anything else in the late 90s too), coupled with them actually not standing in the way of third-party development for once, meaning it’s just a free-for-all
Nier Automata is out on the Switch. The port seems to have been performed quite well, but I am wondering why I shoukd play it on the Switch rather than the PS4
