yes i take the piss out of this thing on the reg and muted “My Nintendo Switch” on twitter 18 months ago but i have a bit of spare cash plus the kind of anhedonia only Buying Things can cure and got to thinking maybe…

but a couple of games and accessories and you’re way into £450+ territory, good lord

yeah I got two of the “two new games for 20% off” voucher pairs in the summer when I bought the console on craigslist and that kept the prices somewhat acceptable

from those vouchers I have three famicom games and a gamecube game on it, all of which are the best installment in their respective series in +/- 20 years, and there’s no other software I’m immediately planning on getting, and it’s entirely worth it on that basis

A thing I have really embraced with teh Switch is getting eshop cards for 10% (or more when I can find them) off, so everything’s a little bit on sale.

Am running out of room on my SD card tho

hmm, will see if there are some black friday deals or whatever

i only started considering it while playing ys8 and thinking “yeah it’d be kinda nice to play this without booting up microsoft windows or listening to the deafening ps4 fan”

maybe that was the appeal all along

so hey if i do buy one of these damned things what accessories are necessary? screen protector and a big microsd mandatory right?

I have a 32 gig micro in mine that was like 10 bucks and it is only just recently running up against its limit, but I buy carts more than digital, so, you know, adjust accordingly.

A ten dollar screen protector and probably a ten dollar sleeve/case of some kind would be good (case only if you plan on taking it places with you).

a big microsd is less of a big deal than a fast one, I had an old 64G card I put in there which was plenty big but was only like 40M/s where the new ones are more like hard drive speeds across the board

also if you’re multiplaying I’d get an 8bitdo controller and / or a gamecube controller adaptor before I’d get more joycons

and if you’re really trying to cut corners, you can sell the dock that comes with it and use a mbp dongle instead, as long as it has the same port configuration (hdmi, USB c, 2x USB a)

i don’t have a screen protector but lots of people do

i love the pro controller!!!

I haven’t used the actual pro controller, but some sort of wireless traditional gamepad is all but essential. I picked this thing up about a month ago and I adore it:

It doesn’t have the HD rumble or the NFC compatibility, but that’s a small thing.

I"m not sure how essential a screen protector is. Most people seem to use it mostly docked or mostly handheld. I use it like 40/60 and it’s a psychological comfort to know I’m protecting the screen at the very least—and those’re pretty cheap.

Woah how is that Dpad?

I like it pretty well! But I should maybe hold off on getting too enthusiastic about my endorsement, since that’s best judged with a platformer or something and I’ve mainly been playing Tales of Vesperia, Breath of the Wild, Tetris 99, and Minecraft.

I have the version of that controller with no handles, and the dpad often registers left when I press up.

ive been wanting that 8bitdo because trihex and poobear use it hahaha. i really wanna actually play the good games on switch but i wont touch it cuz of those fuckin joycons

i feel really bad for the person who bought it for me, i was so excited about getting a switch but i hate playing it. i hate how my hands are even further apart than the wii u in portable mode, which was already too far for holding a controller (this is a personal issue i doubt that bothers other people). i hate how the joycons feel held seperately, and i hate how they feel slotted into being a fake controller.i have all these options but theyre mediocre at best. not to mention just how fucking flimsy the joycons are and THE MINUS BUTTON UGH

i was gonna get a pro controller but those are a nightmare too. like gunpei yokoi needs to haunt everyone who had anything to do with switch controllers by nintendo

anyway ill probably have enough for an 8bitdo in a couple months

I got that Pro Controller and it’s nice, suits my needs but I’m insecure about being perceived as normie so I’ll just say that the 8bitdo is the good one

there’s nothing wrong with the pro controllers, it’s just the 8bitdos are better priced, widely compatible, have interesting designs, and are just really solid

it’s just so rare for “third party controller” to not have any downsides

This is very very true. Pro controller is not worth the high cost
