I just bought Link’s Awakening on the eShop and didn’t get the advertised double gold points, so I’m kinda pissed
EDIT: Okay so I just re-read the store description and apparently the points will ‘be awarded to your account by 2/10/2019’ which is kinda weird, but whatever
Yeah, it’s sort of Mario coin-esque shade of yellow but not gold-looking. It’s hard to describe.
I got the teal one because I’m in sort of a nihilistic mood. I got it at Target and they had them in a small display near the register, which I appreciated. I think it fits in with the “lite” ethos; something to pick up on the way out of the store instead of the semi-stressful event of asking an employee to open up a scary case.
Anyone who was turned off on Link’s Awakening Switch because of the english singing, as far as I can tell it’s just for the adverts. In the actual game she just sings in la la noises like Malon in OoT. I’m only up to Kanalet Castle though, so who knows, maybe they use it in the credits or something.
As for new stuff, besides the make-a-dungeon stuff (which seems fine enough for what it is, actually) there’s extra figurines you can win in the Trendy Game which can be displayed on pedestals in certain spots. No idea what this does though. Also found a bottle in the fishing game
The Trendy Game uses actual physics now, I had a seashell caught in the claw and then it just fell straight out the side.
This all reminds me that I need to see if the lyric translations of Mr. Accordion’s hint songs in BotW are as hamhandedly clunky and unpoetic in Japanese as they are in English. Because they’re so bad in English, even though they aren’t sung.
I preordered the new Hori Split Pad Pro controller (it’s going to be available in Italy) on 1st October. It seems very nice, and should help me playing Hollow Knight with decent controls, because the regular joy cons aren’t working very well with it.
While I am putting Hollow Knight on hold, I am really loving Zelda Link’s Awakening. I had only started the gameboy color version one year ago (like, 4 hours of gameplay), so I had just some taste of it. I am loving both the graphical style of the remake and also the moody music, it’s really lovely and trasmits self-irony and self awareness.
My local Target, where I found myself last night, had theirs in a locked case. I looked at it and it was a struggle not to cave in. I need to figure out if I have enough stuff I can sell to earn the cash so I’m not going “out of pocket” which would be somewhat financially irresponsible at the moment.
I am a fool who gets too hype about new games, so I picked up the Link’s Awakening remake. Just finished the second dungeon. They really did nail the vibe here. This game is cute as all hell.
It’s an interesting way to do a remake. They hardly changed the actual gameplay, but they put so much care into every little detail of the presentation that it feels like this delicately hand-crafted diorama all the way through. Every single house’s interior looks completely different, it feels like there aren’t any reused assets in them.
The music is fantastic. It’s hard to top the moodiness of the game boy soundchip, but the way they elaborated on those sounds is lovely. These aren’t boring, orchestral remixes. The arrangements have a great range of weird instrumentation, and in some cases they elaborated on the original songs in pretty cool ways. The music in the second dungeon (the dark one with Mario boos in it) has little hints of the Mario World ghost house melody deep in the background.
Even though I played the hell out of this game when I was 8, I’m having a blast right now.
