yeah that’s very true, esp for the more obvious “shovelware” type stuff. i only have bought stuff massively on sale if it’s something i already heard of.
I don’t know if that applies to the 90% discounts, but that’s definitely standard practice for catalog sales on big games, now. Leave your 2, 3, decade-years-old game at $30 or even $50 and sell it at a 60%+ discount six times a year.
As always, steamdb.info is a wealth of pricing information
I use “dekudeals.com” to scroll thru the sales (sorted by lowest price [or “new lowest price” etc.) & then kind of roughly gauge from the sale history what stuff is eternally discounted at 95% off for visibility reasons (
Quest for The Golden Duck
) and what games r clearly concerned indies interested in someone plz anyone just giving their game a shot.
It’s hit or miss for obvious reasons but its a good way 2 find novel games that have otherwise vanished under the deluge of intentionally half-baked prefabs.
Going through another bout of sore temptation to buy one of these. Actually leaning toward a Lite, now. I feel like I need to go meditate under a waterfall or something
kinda wish i hadn’t now, though maybe smt5 will actually show up one day
ive been resisting this for months lol. the only thing stopping me is how expensive the games are, still, even after like so many years.
I never turn on my original model because I hate holding it and I don’t like the Normal Controller for it either.
the pro controller’s buttons do feel too loose but i’ve been loving the switch lately for splatoon and an indies machine. that said if you have a decent computer the value proposition might be different
I can play the Switch in bed and it has Picross and Pac-Man 99 and Tetris 99 and enough cheap adventure games that piss me off enough to keep me awake, it’s so good the Switch even if you don’t buy the expensive (but good) games
Now that I have an 8bitdo controller I consider it “a must” especially since the Pro controller’s dpad is bad and makes games like Tetris unplayable
My switch brings me no joy, waiting forever for smt 5 and zelda doesnt help either
that’s the big problem. every game is more expensive on the switch, and is obviously an inferior experience. so you have to really value the portability
I got a rootable model from craigslist the same month they were doing the promotion where if you put down Nintendo money in $100 increments it was good for two new releases
adequate value considering, and after having the most fun I’ve had with each of dragon quest / fire emblem / smash bros in about 20 years if not ever, it’s mostly become my wife’s since. very good purchase that I resisted just as long as I wanted to, but I will say that I dislike both most third party switch ports and most switch-forward indies (goose, hades) so it’s not an unqualified recommendation, especially now. all the big budget stuff on there is universally excellent to revisit in little bursts though.
or never want to play games on PC, which is me.
scarlet grace on a car ride would earn its keep i bet
i go through phases of using my Switch; mostly if i want to play a particular game on the system. it really earned its keep when i was still traveling to places every year via plane, but since i’ve been so sedentary and at home, i often just opt for a different console.
that said, it does have Mario Kart and some other stuff that my gf knows and likes, so it’s seen some usage there, lately.
do think i’d use mine a bit more to play like bloodlines in bed or something if i had the hori dpad joycon (is that thing any good?)
as it stands i’ll definitely play smt5, botw2, genealogy remake if that is a thing etc. but i don’t think i’ve powered it on in 2021
i was going to say all the games are ‘twice as expensive with twice the loading time’ but i would have been underselling the loading times
Recommend the “split pad pro,” dpad, back buttons, and makes it much more comfortable
Still using mine somewhat daily, but having a kid around has made that a bit of a necessity if he is using the TV. It’s mostly a JRPG machine for me now, which is pretty alright. Having like most of SaGa, some FF/DQ games, and Nintendo proprietary stuff means it gets used a lot when I am in that kind of mood. Also yeah, Picross.
The kid uses his mostly for Fortnite and Minecraft, which OK, sure dude. Sarah has one for exclusively Animal Crossing and Tetris 99, but she has put in enough time on both of those to more than justify it.
I used mine exclusively in portable mode for over a year and then a month ago plugged it back into the TV. It’s like buying a new console, what a bargain!
Yeah due to various life circumstances, I’ve gone through periods of playing only docked, only handheld, or only tabletop. I really appreciate that easeful flexibility even if I only switch it up once or twice a year.
I can usually stomach the lofi quality of games on Switch, though I do get sad when something drops much below 720p 30fps.
