I see now that Ori and a Will o’ Wisps has come out on the Switch at the end of September!
Apparently, it’s also a pretty good port, some graphical downgrades but nothing bad. Has anybody tried it?

That latest English trailer with Here Comes The Hotstepper is the best videogame trailer since MGS meant a damn though, so the hype is more than justified!
(In case no one knows what I’m talking about.)
I didn’t like Like A Dragon when it was announced. It seemed like a wack concept. Then the idea of it festered in my mind and three days or so before release I was so hype for it that I preordered it, having never played a Yakuza game in my life before. It got so bad that two days before launch I had to play a Yakuza game right now and bought Zero, too.
Now I have 39 hours in Like A Dragon and I can’t get enough, never want it to end. Will probably be my game of the year!

Has anyone played either of the No More Heroes ports on Switch? It seems like they have faster load times and an option for motion controls but not sure how they compare to the Wii version. Kinda curious to get it despite drift being the bane of my Switch.

i’ve just finished the first game on switch. i never played it before, but it seemed like a really good port. played it all handheld, so no motion controls. load times were really quick compared to the videos i’ve see of the wii game.

I’ve been playing Umihara Kawase Fresh. the only other version of this I’d played was the Super Famicom.
the game and physics are as solid as ever but the presentation is lacking. the world feels much less bizarre and mysterious than the older versions. you pick ‘missions’ from a list which turns the levels into bite sized morsels of rubber band action rather than a continuous barrage of platforming challenge. I hate the ‘hunger’ mechanic and cooking subplot - was that in the original game? don’t think so. I’m only a little ways past the Giga Tadpole though so maybe it’ll open up. still awesome to play this on the switch, and to finally get a real handle on how the controls work…

I was pretty disappointed with Fresh, but it has some good challenge levels. Cotton is the best addition, her flight ability is a very satisfying expansion on the Yoshi flutter jump.
some games ive played on this thing lately.
friends of ringo ishikawa - never before have i chilled this hard in a videogame. just wanna bludge school and smoke cigs with my bros forever. i felt the story kinda fizzled out but i think that may be my fault for not hitting enough progress with anyone before the ending approached. I tried my best but it is intentionally unclear, which is good, until it means u dont finish any of the storylines. still, it is exceptional, and that night time song is so good.
dragon quest 1 and 2 - i know these remakes are notoriously ugly but i was hungry for some dq. hadnt played 1 or 2 before and thoroughly enjoyed them. I actually quite like how the battle scenes look, these digitally hand drawn images with heavy symmetry and tiling.
shinsekai into the depths - has anyone else played this? it kinda owns dude. the movement feels super strange and cool. maybe it would be less fun for ppl who play a lot of 2d action metroidvania indie type games but i never play that stuff so i have no fatigue for it. and i bet this one is better than the others.
resident evil 1 remake - wow those graphics! wow resident evil 1 owns id never played it! did you know there are sharks in this game? I sure didn’t!!
baba is you - i kinda find this game annoying lol.
dandy shot - this is a visual novel about dating a bunch of middle aged guys who are regulars at a snack bar. it is called Pub Encounter in the eshop which is a way worse name but the Japanese title Dandy Shot features mostly in the actual game. just thought id play something i don’t have much experience with. I don’t think it’s very good but idk its kinda novel. id like to be a shy submissive young woman who picks which fancy older man seduces me, and thanks to the power of the Nintendo Switch Appliance i can. anyone recommend any other vis novs on the switch??
anyway its been nice buying a game, beating it, then buying the next game. instead of just accumulating heaps of shit and never playing any of it like i usually do. exception is baba is you which i assume like 0.1% of people finish

I find it really hard to use the joycons in portable mode lately, do any of you have experience with third party joy cons that are larger? I’ve seen a few online but nothing inspires confidence
The Hori split pad pro ones are really comfortable, but they lack rumble and gyro.
I used to have one of these:
It had rumble and gyro, but the dpad sucked, and the right thumb stick started drifting after a few months.

I use this thing. cheaper than a new controller setup and it works well. though your joycons are probably going to break eventually anyway, because nintendo

I’ve played 3 VNs on the switch:

One night stand is super cute, 10 minutes long and very replayable, can’t recommend it enough

Will: A wonderful life (or world?) is pretty good. It’s a Chinese VN, the basic concept is that you witness bad endings over and over but can change the words around to change the outcome. So like if one guy picks up a gun and shoots you in the head you can go « Uh no -I- pick the gun and -I- shoot him in the head instead lol ». It barely makes sense half the time but it’s very stupid fun. The story is highly trashy pulp but enjoyable (it’s a VN) with a female audience in mind
There are multiple protagonists to follow so if you get bored of the two gay cops you can go and watch the cat’s story for a while -
i give an anti-recommendation to AI the Somnium Files, made by the 999 team. Each new game they’ve made has been worse than the last one honestly. This one somehow has multiple « throw a porn magazine to distract guards » cutscenes
