Shinsekai looks interesting although I notice it’s an IOS game as well, does that kind of design/UI bleed over into the Switch version any?
Oh sick thank you! I had ai the somnium files on my radar actually so i appreciate the anti rec lol.
Absolutely not, i was real surprised to see it was an apple arcade game when i read the wikipedia after i beat it. It feels like a 360 game if anything
I’ll echo the anti-rec. The game has a somewhat decent premise but the amount of perv stuff just goes above and beyond a joke to the point that major plot elements almost revolve around the whole thing. I also found it extremely slow moving which was exacerbated by it forcing you to view every route (some of which feel like pointless asides).
One of the best things about the game is a bizarre musical number that it ends on which you can just watch for free on Youtube.
Just played one night stand for a couple hours, it’s great! Much better than dandy shot. It really feels human. I do resent that it lets you be a dickhead though.
100%, and the Somnium dives were a large parr of the issue. Very drawn out dream sequences, filled with completely arbitrary choices, on a time limit, all for 1 clue? Both idea and execution were terrible and the whole thing is like half the game
Ngl it’s funny how the only meaningful choices in this murder mystery are like « you are in a dream, apropos of nothing do you want to open door (10 seconds cost) punch dog (20 seconds cost) or cry (99 seconds cost) » but it gets old
I missed the musical sequence because I stopped playing after knowing the culprit’s identity, mid-final fight
Oh wow i dont think i like the little extra context you get when u get all the endings in One Night Stand. Felt especially weird since i got the “best” ending last
also played takeshi and hiroshi just now which is a delightful little game about developing a jrpg for your little brother. I award it the 2020 The Game Awards award for best luxe micro rpg on the switch
Yes, it was frustrating as a sci-fi story that squanders its concept. You have a machine that allows you to enter dreams but basically only to gather hunches. Nothing found in a dream even seems like particularly useful evidence since it’s not admissible in courts because:
a. the existence of the machine is a state secret
and
b. the dreams are so subjective in nature it begs the question of how reliable they are at all (they seem to be even more unreliable than eye-witness memory) which of course is used to misdirect the player endlessly.
They bend over so much to explain the core conspiracy that their spines become spirals. The way everything knits up is admittedly quite clever but it’s not really worth a lot of the slog and convolution.
Haha I distract a SWAT team with a porno mag.
what a pity. 999 is gold but everything they made after it, is highly missable
Yeah that part is a punch in the gut! I tend to forget it!
I forgot about Eliza, the Zachtronics VN. It’s about treating therapy with AI, and the implications.
As a Zachtronics game it’s smart and sometimes clinical, to the point that it’s hard to maintain interest in the overarching story. There are, intentionally, barely any meaningful choices, for better and for worse. The individual therapy sessions are fantastic though, profoundly affecting, some of the best writing and VA work in videogames
Shinsekai is real good so far, I love the environments, animations, UI and controls.
Oxygen tanks as a breakable resource is very stressful. What if Samus’ energy tanks could permanently break? I have no idea how anyone thought this was a good fit for phone controls, losing a tank because of imprecise touch controls must be maddening
Can anyone recommend either the Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion or Breath of the Wild DLC expansion? Had them on my wishlist but not sure I really wanna revisit either game. Are they any good?
Octo Expansion is better than the base single-player campaign while being just as meaty
Yeah seconding Octo Expansion. I really enjoyed it, and I hadn’t even beaten Splatoon’s normal single player. Great music too!
Octo expansion has so many tasty snacks inside. There are a handful of missions that demand incredible reflexes and it’s kind of cool to be challenged at that level.
Did anyone buy the new Zelda Musou and if so does it have Adventure Mode? I loved Adventure Mode. I loved beating up moblins and making numbers go up.
It’s not really the same from what I’ve seen but it essentially just throws you onto the BotW map that is dotted with adventure mode-like mini challenges mixed in among the main levels/story progression.
I got Hori’s split pad pro.
I’m confused by the back buttons. I have no use for them but my middle and ring fingers are constantly resting upon them which is not comfortable at all.
Why does this controller have useless protruding pain buttons, it would be so good without them
I got mine the other day too! You can assign a button from each half of the controller onto them by pressing assign and then the button. (I use it in dark souls to roll and hades to dash)
It’s a decent pad so far, the mushy triggers and below average dpad are more than made up for by the comfort compared to joycons, even if it does turn the switch into a widey
