They should be as long or as short as they need to be. Like how television developed for Netflix or whatever doesn’t have to be a specific amount of time per episode like it would on broadcast tv. Each one can be whatever length the story requires.
i will say for like mainstream AAA games i don’t horribly distrust reviews per se because they’re kind of reviewing a content trough and a lot of them resemble each other, but for more niche indie stuff what A) even gets reviewed by those websites (and by which websites) vs. what doesn’t and B) what seems to score well vs. what doesn’t is so utterly arbitrary to me that it’s frankly baffling. it feels like such a wasteland sometimes.
This often results in flabby shows that need edited fwiw. Limitations are good sometimes!
Have watched a million switch hidden gems videos so my list is pretty big now. Gonna paste the whole thing as it is right now.

Wanna give particular notice to gal metal which looks fucking sweet as hell and i only saw it in one video. A rhythm game rpg about being the drummer in an all girl metal band in tokyo! Wow!!!
Anyway my switch wont arrive for like another month so im having more fun with this long planning period than i will probably ever have with the toy itself.
don’t forget you can always find someone who wants or is doing a family plan and buy in for a few bucks for a whole year
If you like Psikyo stuff, would also rec Zero Gunner 2 even though it’s a bit wonky versus the DC version. It feels really good to rotate your chopper to swivel around and strafe-shoot from all angles.
seen that one and tbh i dont like the grafix. the rotation does look sweet though. and apparently it’s easy? thats good cause i suck at shooters
TLDW but isn’t this just “High-Level Emulation” like the earliest N64 emulators did? They were able to run Mario 64 at higher resolutions, too.
For shooters, I’ve been playing Jet Lancer lately and it seems pretty cool so far.
For Mario 64 they redrew the HUD/UI elements, did some kind of upscaling technique on certain textures that are then injected via lua scripts in real time during gameplay, used 4-point texture filtering rather than 3-point like the original hardware and ditched antialiasing so it’s not a completely accurate rendering. Also a slight delay on sound effects compared the original and due to the higher resolution the low detail Mario that appears during lod switches is a lot more noticeable. Framerate is capped to 30fps, there is occasional frame stuttering. Aspect ratio is still 4:3. It’s better than the Wii U VC version all other things considered.
For Sunshine they bumped it to 1080p and changed the aspect ratio to 16:9. The HUD elements are smaller and pushed to the edges of the screen which when combined with the higher resolution makes the whole game more readable into the distance. Might be some texture upscaling going on. FMV are upscaled. Visual effects are present and reflections render at much higher resolution. Framerate is capped to 30 like 64.
With Galaxy they went to 1080p and re-encoded video sequences at a higher resolution but colors are washed out and there is color banding on some visual elements. Framerate is 60 tho.
Like a full-on sucker, I picked up the new compilation.
My god, the opening to Sunshine is fuckin’ tedious.
what’s the best way to play 64 in 2020?
pc port probably
Getting a physical (i.e. pre-patch) copy of this might be handy if they figure out how to inject other games into the emulators
It’s sure to appreciate in value regardless
Yeah by this time next year you could probably sell a sealed one of these for $200 easy.
lol
Amazing.
yup, my copy arrived today. i was ready to cancel the preorder, but then a news article about some shops not getting enough stock to fuliful orders made me stick it out.
Does the no inverted y-axis thing only apply to camera controls, or does it affect swimming and flying? Like if you push the stick up, does Mario swim/fly up?
I think the default slight smile to despairing upsetness is the essence of toad
