Switch! (Part 1)

Now I wonder if they’ve redone the camera for any of these games. I didn’t pay enough attention to the previews to tell.

Edit: The Mario 64 footage still has the Lakitu icon in the bottom right so probably not, right?

I’m not sure the FLUDDless levels in SMS suggest they didn’t have faith in the FLUDD as an interest mechanic to build challenges around so much as they suggest the development team had two different sorts of challenges they wanted to present in the game.

Ive posted al this before prolly.

I started out hating the fludd stuff but grew to love the game over time. The Hotel, the Theme Park and Pianta Village are still excellent levels. Fludd belly sliding is still a ton of fun. I just hate cleaning up ink and pulling the arms off of octopuses. The hub town is pretty hang outable tbh.

Galaxy just feel bad to play and I kinda feel like the game thinks I’m an idiot. I just do not care about exploring SPAAACE and I cant recall wanting to hang out anywhere.

I don’t get the 3D World / Land games. They are 3D like a crash bandicoot or CROC is 3D. I got 3D world as a gift and ran to the end in like one day with some friends. I liked the friends part, It was ok but I have no desire to play it ever again. I can barely remember individual levels which is a new thing for me and a mario.

I am interested in the officially upscaled wide aspect Mario 64. But not $60 interested.

I think 3D world is overrated. It is super easy apart from a few much, much harder levels which contrast against the others and feel unfair.

3d Land is much better, half of the game is easy, the other half is challenging.

I am mostly interested in Sunshine, hoping it will be the “Majora’s mask” of 3d marios. It seems very quirky and comes from an era where Nintendo wasn’t totally compelled in making their games ultra accessible yet (which means, pre-Wii)

Not sure about the Galaxies. They look visually creative. I know Tim rogers used to hate them.
I have the feeling that they’d be super easy too.

3D World is fun co op, but yeah the single player has nothing on 3D Land

But… Are Sunshine and 64 treaked graphically? Can I expect them to be nicer than they would be on an emulator?

have they said anything about 3d world online multiplayer or is that still a pipe dream

I see you.

I think they actually confirmed online multiplayer for it. 3d world actually seems like it’s getting reworked somewhat more then just whatever the added Bowser’s Fury content is. People have noticed that the graphics are not just a straight upres but seems to have reworked lighting that makes things looks less plasticy. There’s even gameplay changes like the run speeds seemingly increased as well as characters having some sort of new diving move even when not in a fursuit.

Oh yeah, wow. Check out the listing at Super Mario™ 3D World + Bowser’s Fury for Nintendo Switch - Nintendo Official Site.

Work together locally* or online** with up to three other players to reach the goal…and to see who can get a high score.

It also finally occurs to me that Mario 35’s window may be limited because they plan to release a version of the game where the player cap is not tied to the anniversary.

Can’t wait for Super Mario 36 next year

Remember last year there was a Mario battle royale fangame

Some folks mad at Nintendo for stealing the creativity of their fans, but it looks like the approaches are pretty different (Mario 35 seems like as much a Tetris 99 sequel as an SMB variant), and _____ but it’s battle royale now is one of the guiding philosophies in videogames in these trying times.

Cooking Mama but it’s a battle royale now

I for one think 3D world is better than 3D land primarily because the artwork is way more vivid and introduces more new visual concepts like the transparent pipes instead of just the same old Mario themes. On my end I remember plenty of 3d world stages but I can’t remember any stage from 3D land: they all look the same. And I also like crazy difficulty spikes, linear difficulty curves are dull.

Even if like everyone but me thinks, it is worse than 3D land, it will be much easier to appreciate for the new wave of players who haven’t already played a similar game. One issue with 3D world is that every single Wii U owner already had a 3DS, but the game wasn’t balanced like a sequel.

Very happy to see it finally getting ported after my like 5 decreasingly hopeful predictions in this thread.

Also! Captain Toad is a way better game in its original context as a palate cleanser in between huge acrobatic levels

Mmm… I could agree with you in theory (regarding difficulty spikes vs gradual curve), but I don’t think it works here.

The game is super easy for 95% of the time, which makes it dull, boring. Like a walk through a lunapark.

But, I do agree that it is wonderful aesthetically. It’s just as you said, its colors are stunning, vibrant, the game has a lot of personality and the levels become memorable thanks to this. While in 3D land, where levels are designed much better from a gameplay point of view, they look much more dull and samey, as you were pointing out.

Also true that it’s nicer to have Captain Toad in small doses (as in Mario 3D World) than having a full game with it, cuz it can become repetitive and boring really quickly.

Today I noticed my launch Switch has a swollen battery that’s caused the area around the exhaust vents to crack and I am very not happy about this.

Anyone know if Nintendo repairs this shit for free?

I suspect they would! They have a, like, troubleshooting tool thing that will tell you to send it in or not, and they’ll make a shipping label for you. Worst case scenario is that they send it back to you unrepaired. I think.

It’s fucken slow though, took like a month for me
