Nintendo seems to have, at some point, quietly removed the mouse acceleration from the main menu on Switch 2.
I for one think it’s cool that Nintendo is poisoning HDR for games in the mainstream between having an edge lit screen in portable play, the set up utility, their own efforts and general apathy towards HDR implementations in games
they still got some work to do if they want to overtake Windows
(I can’t believe I learned that MacOS handles HDR and SDR content on screen at the same time properly from a Digital Foundry video)
the 120hz MBPs (essentially every ARM-based MBP afaik) also handle adaptive sync flawlessly – there isn’t even a toggle exposed anywhere for it – though unless you’re running games in crossover (a wonderful piece of software) you would pretty much never know
by comparison, I have had so many Chrome video rendering bugs in mixed HDR/SDR monitor configurations on Windows (they’re some of the only Chrome bugs I’ve personally had to report and repro until they get fixed), and I pretty much stopped using desktop Linux right when HDR and adaptive sync became popular in the late 2010s so I have no idea how it handles that
otoh IINA still doesn’t support Dolby Vision because it’s on an older branch of mpv so pobody’s nerfect
Buried lede in here is that Nintendo is manufacturing two smaller Switch 2 cart sizes, I guess after all the key card backlash.
Edit: of course it shows up in the blurb when I say it was buried. Still, I guess that’s good news (at least, for games that don’t need the faster read speeds, like Star Wars Outlaws).
looking at this graphic and the use of the words ‘physical’, ‘size’ and ‘dimensions’ are, I believe what the children call, “sending” me
if they’re using a smaller capacity cart but still having to charge an extra tenner over a GKC, the argument for using a GKC over full physical still exists for the publishers that were doing it anyway
Welp.
Edit: Welp, pt. 2
I wonder if Nintendo has plans to ever sell the international Switch 2 retail in Japan.
I’m sure the staff at Yodobashi Camera Akihabara gets asked if they have it like 60 times daily.
Bizarre thing
I bought Suika Game Planet’s Switch 1 version assuming I could then get a discount on the Switch 2 one like most games.
Not only does it not give a discount, it won’t let me add the Switch 2 version to my cart at all, because it says I already have it (I don’t).
about gd time
i wonder if they’ll ever release any that aren’t black with color highlights tho. i probably don’t need a second set, but def inclined to hold out for that.
It’s possible they would, but I wouldn’t put money on it.
I made the mistake of loading the eShop when playing my Switch today…did they, uh, make that any better on Switch 2?
Like I’m sure it loads faster and runs smoother, I just mean the endless sea of slop on the shop pages. I was scrolling forever and don’t think I came across The Outfoxies, but I did pass by 40 “hentai” puzzle games and half a dozen Labubu AI games.
It’s definitely smoother and faster on Switch 2, but I think the slop is arguably worse because now when scrolling through the listings it will autoload trailers, so if you pause on some AI game for a second to go ‘WTF?’ it will start autoplaying whatever GenAI voice/music/visuals they cobbled together for it
The eShop library is the same as the Switch 1’s.
There’s no slop games specifically for Switch 2 yet at least.
The funniest thing about the Switch 2 eshop is that there’s a new feature where it recommends you games to buy, depending on your purchases or what games your friends play. Except it only gives you ten recommendations and then it’s done and you have to wait a week to get new recs. Incredible design.
I’d argue that that’s significantly less predatory than an endless stream of recs though.

The Virtual Boy headset is out. Don’t have one yet but I ordered it.
Apparently it’s REALLY good. Like, hard to tell the difference from the real thing in a side by side.
