Switch 2 (part 1)

Speak of the devil, well, sorta, kinda.

I gotta imagine they’re making a proper one, but if you’ve got the original Mobapad…

Edit: oof, no charging support. So you’d either need to pop it onto a standalone charger or plug each one in via USB C.

Looks like a really good and cheap option to use with the batteryless Split Pad Pro! (though it’d be an even bigger crime against the concept of beauty than the split pad pro already is on the OG Switch)

LOL I was honestly wondering when someone would make something like this. I wonder if the brackets make it too wide now to fit in my case. The case fits the original Switch + M6 joycons or the Switch 2 with the Genki grips but very snuggly.

Guess I’ll get it before the new tariffs hit

$20 including shipping! Not bad

I do wonder though - if it’s not allowing it to charge, it may be connecting to the Switch 2 wirelessly, which would make using the Hori pads moot.

Digital Eclipse’s compilations run at 1080p in handheld without any patch, which looks really good.

Some weirdos who don’t know what a boycott is put together a site encouraging people to boycott the Switch 2.

The web design is so messy I’m pretty sure it was designed by one of those sites where you can use an AI agent to program the site for you.

Some highlights

Your friends might not be your real friends if they don’t throw away their Switch 2!

Their FAQ says that piracy is not a viable alternative to buying Nintendo games, but…

On their page suggesting alternatives to the Switch 2 they promote a piracy console.

They also have a whole page about how Nintendo is lying about supply and demand, but supply for Switch 2 seems to be pretty good.

I can’t find it anymore because of how broken this site is, but there’s also a page about how you should hide your online activity so if you are playing Switch 2, your friends won’t know about it.

It’s hilarious how deeply unserious these people are.

I regret to inform everyone: I bought a Switch 2 Pro Controller. After trying it out at my friend’s house, I found out it feels smaller and more comfortable to hold than most of my other controllers, the analog sticks are at an appropriate height for my hands, and the dpad is fine for playing Puyo with :headstone:

Wish I found this out sooner before getting a bunch of other controllers :cryingpig:

The dpad isn’t amazing though but it’s way better than the piece of shit Switch 1 Pro Controller that was unusable and felt stiff as hell to push down. For any dpad-heavy game, I’d probably switch back to my D6 Retro Fighter pad or Gulikit Elves 2 Pro. But besides that, it’s comfortable and fits my small hands once again and doesn’t feel incredibly heavy? I’d have to weigh it to compare to other controllers though.

Edit: the only mod I did was to add textured stickers over the top of the analog sticks because they were way too smooth and my thumbs kept slipping. Textured stickers for buttons/keyboard/mouse are so useful, it’s handy to have a set around, I would recommend it.

The real problem for me has been Puyo Puyo Tetris. In Puyo Puyo mode, the spurious down inputs on the Switch Pro Controller d-pads just make the piece briefly move faster which is usually of no consequence, but in Tetris mode it triggers fast-drop, instantly and utterly ruining my stack.

I guess that can always be worked around by switching the game settings to a different control mode that uses another button for fast-drop, though.

That was my concern as well, but I haven’t had a problem doing hours of Puyo Tetris Sprints. But maybe I press the dpad differently? :tarothink:

I also tested this on my friend’s controller and didn’t have a problem with accidental drops, which is what convinced me to get one too in the first place.

Still haven’t had a chance to try out GameChat. Have any of you used it?

I used it twice to play Mario Kart with friends. I was surprised how well it picked up our voices despite the Switch 2 being docked in the corner and my voice being blocked by a desk.

Also tried it once where my friend plugged in random webcams he had and they all worked, including the Kinect, I think???

I never use voice chat in general outside of work and I use controllers that don’t even have the GameChat button so I’ll never use that feature again though lol

Neat that it’s as good as they demo-ed though

my current relationship with my Switch 2 is grabbing the Star Wars Outlaws demo out of curiosity from all the screenshots and impressions and being angry that games on more powerful platforms look and run relatively worse

I’m not going to sit here and tell you it’s equal to its bigger brothers and Kay’s hair consistently looks terrible but goddamn if it doesn’t look like Current Generation Video Game on a 15w budget

The mouse function is neat but after trying it for a while it kind of really sucks.

It’s just not actually comfortable to use a Joycon as a mouse.

I have no desire to own more Nintendo hardware, but look at this little guy

just look at him.

it’s still wild to me that this thing has been out for 5 months and there isn’t a single alternative color for joycon 2s.

also could really go for a third-party split pad pro type thing. the default controllers aren’t terrible handheld, but not as comfortable as i’d like.

was kind of surprised there wasn’t a big holiday game they were pushing, but i guess people are pretty excited about metroid prime 4

Metroid Prime 4 looks like it’ll be as underwhelming as MK World at best, whereas Donkey Kong was great and I’m expecting great things for Kirby

I think the best option right now (saying this as a Switch 1 owner! No idea if this works!) is to pair the beefy Mobapad Joycons with their new adapter.

that would theoretically also let you use any joycon 1s, right?

It would, but they’ll likely be uncomfortable unless they’re oversized.
