Switch 2 (part 1)

i’ll probably get one. Air Ride and Mario Kart and (Not)Bloodborne 2 all seem pretty fun, and i as Sony and Xbox go into the “will we even have a console?” territory, it feels like Nintendo is attempting to keep some form of identity.

that said, is this is the most conservative upgrade since the SNES?

I like how things are moving fast in terms of hilarity

apparently in Japan it costs an extra 20k yen to have a system that’s not locked to Japanese

Lot of annoying stuff in this direct, and not a lot of hype.

  • That dual mouse basketball game’s vibes were sterile, very weird to see Nintendo put something out that’s aesthetically on par with like a 1997 Activision game.
  • Charging for that Switch 2 tutorial is WILD.
  • It sounds like the Switch 2 not only won’t just automatically play Switch 1 games at higher resolution or framerate, but you’ll have to PAY for that for a small selection of games.
  • I’m actually kind of excited about that Air Ride sequel but it’s wild that they just debuted with two racing games.
  • If that Fromsoft game is exclusive then that’s a good enough reason to get this console, I’ll admit. Looks like they’re going for a Victorian steampunk kind of world.
  • That Donkey Kong game looks fun but it also looks like it might not have a David Wise soundtrack. I mean just based on the vibe of the trailer. But we can hope!
  • GameCube game selection was mostly boring but I will def play Chibi Robo. They need cubivore.
  • It’s funny that the new Mario Kart takes such obvious inspiration from those Forza Horizon games, but the open world stuff does look fun.

i ‘registered’ my ‘interest’ on nintendo’s site. decided against mario kart world bundle to save $50 and because i don’t know that i love mario kart enough to spend $50 on it, but also having a launch title is nice and now i’m seeing the game is $80 so i’m kind of regretting it—nintendo be nintendo so they don’t let you change it.

can’t believe ‘welcome tour’ costs anything. i am hoping it is not $80

wild that silksong is actually coming. i guess i wanna play it.

i’m a sucker who pays for nintendo switch online. looks like we get the botw/botw2 upgrades 4 free, so there’s that at least. something to do with it. plus stardew valley, those are still the games my wife plays most, and she plays most of the switch in our house these days.

my long shot ‘hopes’ were new animal crossing and overcooked 3

it’d be very funny if we did eventually get a new animal crossing and it coincided with the next major pandemic, which is almost certainly coming within the next 3 years and will kill half of us

as someone who doesn’t own a switch in any form and has been holding out: for me, this was probably the best presentation nintendo’s put on. can’t recall one i was more interested in - i watched this one all the way to the end, which basically never happens. it’s also the most interested i’ve been in a new nintendo console since the gamecube, and i was a babby then

don’t care about retro shit since i never left the retro world, but having F-Zero GX available on a modern platform is pretty good

hardware seems all gravy to me. 1080p 120Hz is very nice. game chat is cute, i could actually see myself using that. i like the changes to the joycon ergonomics.

notably, they didn’t say a word about drift/hall effect, so i guess the jury’s still out on that one.

the drag2drive game looks like it could be fun, but impossible to tell much about something like that without actually playing it. still, it’s a pretty novel control mechanism (never seen it used anywhere to my knowledge, hell, the only game i know that even supports 2 mice is Lemmings 2-player mode on Amiga), it’s interesting for that alone.

hyrule warriors 3 looks good, i like how they are tying it into TOTK more closely. looks like it’ll run better than age of calamity, which got rough at times

also appreciated survival kids. is this related to the old game boy game by konami?

liked the way BotW and TotK were running in NS2E mode, looks close to parity with how i’ve been emulating TotK

enter the gungeon 2 looks pretty cool actually. i’m digging that they apparently didn’t quite go full risk of rain 2 there.

hollow knight is critically boring and asinine to me but legitimately happy silksong is still coming for the folks who give a shit

and the duskbloods means i’ll have to get one because that shit looks hot. love From NPCs droning on unintelligbly and dramatically, how can i resist?!

the new pricing seem less based in any kind of budgeting or economic turmoil (outside of Japan, anyway) and more that Nintendo wants unified pricing globally for the major territories and TotK was the test bed

I don’t even want to consider the australian pricing

i hope air riders follows the dev cycle of Kirby Air Ride where it was originally announced in 1996, cancelled in 1997, then the title was re-used for a re-done game by HAL in 2003. if this game gets randomly cancelled next year and then finally comes out on Switch 3 in like 2030 that’d be kind of sick

to me, anyway

there’s a lot of ‘oh come on, nintendo, don’t be so nintendo’ in here rn but the switch 1 controllers are all gonna compatible, and that’s cool, at least
