Switch 2 (part 1)

I’m somehow on the other end of the spectrum, Nintendo has not sent me a confirmation and the order still shows as preparing to ship on their site but UPS is estimating a delivery tomorrow afternoon

Anyone use the same Nintendo Account on multiple switches? Can you download all your games to both?

I’m getting a switch 2 tonight and plan to do the local system transfer to move everything over from my current switch, which I’m keeping and may still use. A number of Hamster’s Arcade Archives games apparently have issues on the switch 2, which is why I I still need my original model.

As far as I can tell, the local system transfer will keep everything intact on the original system, unlike the server-based transfer. But on playstation Sony has this system activation limit that prevents loading the same account’s games on too many systems. Does Nintendo have anything like this?

mine is already 30 miles away

Man, I still haven’t gotten the shipping confirmation email. Maybe it’s because I ordered some accessories too. Posting so Doug Bowser sees this and pulls some strings for me again.

Nintendo recently did the virtual game card thing, which you can kind of sort of opt out of but not really

reading how the 1>2 transfer works, it sends across users and saves and the games are just redownloaded on the 2, so in theory they should be intact and you would set both systems to doing online check-in for licenses, which means both have the libraries but only one can play a given game/load a VGC at a time

there’s a very good chance I have misread or misunderstood some or all of this

Your interpretation matches mine. I haven’t seen anything about activating systems like Sony does with playstation, so I think you may be right that each virtual game card can only be active on one system at a time. I haven’t experimented with these yet, but hopefully it is quick and easy to unload a virtual game card on one system and load it on the other.

In theory I should be able to pick up my console from Best Buy at 10:01 PM MT.

Do we think the eShop will crash?

when tears of the kingdom came out, my wife and i both played the same copy simultaneously. she’d put our main switch into ‘offline’ mode so nintendo couldn’t know that she was playing it when i went on the secondary switch, nintendo’s servers checked if i was authorized to play it, couldn’t find proof that the game was active elsewhere, and let me launch it.

with the virtual game cards, they have to be loaded onto systems and thus unloaded from other systems, which means as far as I can tell that this loophole has been closed. it’s a bummer, though outside of huge launches that both my wife and i care about, which are rare and there probably aren’t any in the future, it’s unlikely to really impact us other than the annoyance of having to be online, which usually isn’t that bad. being able to check things out to people in your ‘family group’ i think is supposed to be easier? that might be nice.

we have two switches so we’re giving one to a friend. need to figure out how to do that and also don’t want to spend any effort figuring out any of this.

yeah i think this might be what happened with mine, too. despite ordering before some of the folks here who already have confirmed updates on where the package is, mine is still in the “we have the label” phase. i also suspect it’s because i was a greedy piggo, wanting a bunch of accessories

oh yeah my attitude toward apple and nintendo is the same in terms of like “the base hardware is functionally irreplaceable and it’s weird to me that so many people go out of their way to avoid having to buy it, but never ever ever let yourself be insulted by the margin on first-party accessories” lol

Saw that Mario Kart World has been patched and the notes include:

  1. You can now play “On the Internet.”
  2. We’ve increased the number of characters that can be selected from the start.

I feel insulted by the absence of OLED on the base hardware this time. I’m concerned that’s going to make it feel like an overall downgrade. That’s the only reason I haven’t ordered one.

yeah between the lack of OLED, the lack of 5nm, and the $50 higher than expected base price, the hardware is disappointing in a bunch of little ways. I made up for it by getting enthusiastic about two new “pro controllers” that aren’t:

(I recommend both of these products!)

100% cow was not selectable from the start and some guy had to rush out a patch to fix it

There turn out to be a lot of excellent controller options all of a sudden, I landed on two different main back-paddle controllers after my Elite 2 broke. The Victrix Pro is a really comfortable customizable-dpad controller I’m using wired on my PC. And I just got the TMR-stick 8bitdo that came out last month, it has a USB-C 2.4Ghz dongle that I can plug into the charging port of my iPad (and also it’s easy to make sure the dongle doesn’t get lost by keeping it plugged into the charging port of the controller).

I like the theory that you could only play as Mario.

Lack of oled is disappointing but the addition of hdr, vrr, and 120hz support more than make up for that. Of course, an oled model with all these new features will probably come along eventually.

I can assure you that if Nintendo could source 16:9 8" 120hz OLED panels at mass scale, they would jump at the chance to upcharge you on them from the get go

Hopefully the lack of support for vrr over hdmi is a software issue that can be fixed on current hardware. Then we can at least play on an oled with vrr while docked.

I am not getting Mario Kart but my Switch 2 is showing up tomorrow, and I’m trying to figure out what to do with it to make it feel like a cool new thing
