Yeah find a plain jacket you like (you can order blank sukajans) and then find a local embrodierer.

Walking around Harajuku was a real Sukajan museum. We started of course at the store featured in the above video. I really wanted to see Morocco Jerry! Someone had bought it in the mean time. It looks like they had sold half the sukajans since that video game out. I did get to see Takusan Stinko in person.
He was 2000 dolllars! Everything that store kind of starts at 500 bucks. Which makes sense! Most of it is at least 50 if not 70 years old. It belongs in a museum or something. One of the joys of going around was seeing all the designs that are outside of the Canon established by Tailor Toyo. Those guys are great but definitely have a specific kind of taste, and they set the course for “traditional” sukajan. When well, if this thread has done one thing is show it is a wide breath.
I am going to take a break from talking about Harajuku to talk about a reproduction we saw.

This is one of the traditional reproduction designs. Tailor Toyo does it. Houston does it. The Flat Head is doing it for 800 bucks. But let’s go back 70 years. Some Sailor on shore leave in Yokosuka went to a bunkmate and went “you can draw right Buck?” Buck would go, “I guess.” “Well Buck, can you draw me a snake and skull? So I can take it to get a jacket?” And after a negotiation of cigarettes Buck draws something on a scrap piece of paper, our sailor get a base pass, takes it to one of the embrodiers (who might have been Kosho Industries I don’t know!) and gets it etched in a 9 dollar jacket.
Our time forgotten Buck has a symbol that has existed and travelled far beyond that sailor’s back to Exquisite Reproduction on the scale of the most legendary Levis.
Insert that meme of someone saying “Cool Skull” and missing the point. It was someone’s cool skull! Now it is almost nobody’s cool skull. It isn’t a logo. It isn’t che guevara on a tshirt. It’s something else I can’t grasp.
I am going to give another example, because I saw the original In Person.
Yes it does Bachelor. It was in the Sukajan mueseum. The original. The one that was made in rememberance of a dear friend who clearly had too short a life. Maybe he brought a picture. Maybe he just described his friend.
Give it up for Landrum! They were a Good Dog.
