STUNLOCK THE PRESSES: combo breaking news (Part 1)

this is all true but of course none of it justifies longpressing to pull lever switches in ff7r

Waiting for instances of kids who grew up with today’s hold to confirm AAA games attempting to play old DOS games and getting confused when they get the internal speaker BIBIBIBIBIBeeping at them

imagine wanting to make a 90’s rail shooter and ripping off starfox instead of panzer dragoon

This was the case for me as well. I was playing SpyHunter and I was supposed to press L3 for something. I had no idea what L3 was. Eventually I either looked it up or asked someone.

On PS4, whenever L3 or R3 do anything in an action game, I do that thing by accident constantly and it irritates me.

I think the manual for THPS2 mentioned the L3 and R3 and I never fully understood what the hell they were talking about until Katamari Damacy came out

This is kind of harsh considering how great Zodiac looks and how hard it is to make indie games by yourself!

i love panzer dragoon but all four entries are basically perfect and so don’t need to be directly pastiched (of course more oblique influence from PD in games with different aims would be massively appreciated), vs star fox which is busted but beautiful and therefore perfect for ripping off with more sophisticated execution beyond secondhand nostalgia factor. anyway this looks nice!

on the other hand i do wish more indie rail shooters were ripping off panorama cotton, which is also perfect, so

I think Star Fox and Star Fox 64 are both mechanically brilliant and a perfect convergence of arcade and home console design

lol

While I do wish he were more creative than Purple Star Fox, Ben doesn’t give a shit about what cranky old Select Button people want to play. And it’s probably better that way

Panzer Dragoon is great but Star Fox is a more aesthetically pleasing to look at kind of game. It uses the low poly look as a style in itself while Panzer Dragoon uses it to poorly imitate its beautiful box art.

If they could make Panzer Dragoon look exactly like the cover art, well, it would be pretty awesome. I wish more games tried to look like that cover art.

There is this Moebius-inspired game still in development apparently

i’m having a really hard time figuring out how to respond to this

I think Panzer Dragoon on Saturn is lovely but I also think maybe we should leave straight up plagiarizing Moebius (and other artists) in the past

Like, I think that’s even sadder and tackier than just making a clone game cuz at least with clone games much of the audience is aware of the source material

If it helps I’ve never actually played Panzer Dragoon only seen still images and the occasional bit of video.

Ah hell this thread just got the SB Bingo.

That is

I’m pretty sure Sega worked with Moebius on Panzer Dragoon. He even drew the cover for it.

The art for the other games by the other artist doesn’t look as Moebius. Definitely a bit of a French SciFi comic vibe, but I don’t recall it being overtly Moebius in style. At least, for Saga/Azel.
