Blood Omen is like edgy Zelda, I played about five hours of it and got the gist. I think it’s worth that.

Soul Reaver is good, I think? I dig the atmosphere

I wanted Blood Omen to be more running around villages and terrorizing people, but that part of the game is so undercooked that it made me bounce off the game really quick. It seemed alright though, but just not what I wanted when I was a goth teen.

I didn’t care for Soul Reaver much either, basically Metroid in 3D with box pushing puzzles NOTE I only like Metroid 2 and Fusion, so that explains my dislike of Reaver. Everyone else loves it, so go for it if it sounds good to you.

Actually now that I think of it, Soul Reaver is kinda like Metroid crossed with a 3D Zelda? I just made myself want to play it again.

It just occurred to me that Soul Reaver and Metroid Prime 2 kind of have a lot in common because they both feature a world-switching mechanic that’s central to the whole thing that each game is doing.

I loved Soul Reaver as a kid even though I always got stuck halfway through. I didn’t know about Blood Omen at the time but Soul Reaver’s tone and world has always stuck with me and it’s opening was such a fantastic mood setter. I think a lot of it had to do with the writing and voice acting, which for kid me felt a bit more sophisticated than I was used to from video games. Particularly the way Raziel describes the feeling of being cast into the soul pit or whatever. Lots of silver dollar words that would impress my elementary school teachers. And all those accents!

I had to use game shark to illegitimately see areas I couldn’t get to and to watch late game FMVs and it looked like the story got really nutty, so I think I lucked out by never finishing it.

The only thing anyone remembers from Soul Reaver nowadays is this needle drop.

Kurt Harland also worked on X-Men 2: Clone Wars, Nightmare Circus and, of course, Gex: Enter the Gecko.

Soul Reaver’s just 3d zelda with a tiny bit of metroid and way too much block pushing. I’m surprised you took it to be so metroid-like

It’s really a good thing that blood omen has almost nothing to do with soul reaver so there’s no reason to pay any heed to that or blood omen 2

Blood Omen 2 started its life as a Chakan: The Forever Man sequel

i tried to join peace & love, inc., but he kept telling me i needed to wear a smiling face and i couldn’t find one in my size.

All the legacy of Kain games are good imo, great vampire schlock and great time travel schlock. I need to replay them and finish the one that kept crashing on me

Shin Megami Tensei III: Symphony of the Night MANIAX :featuring_dante:

I mean recalling the trilogy plot I can think of 3 or 4 plot beats that would be cool to do.

If I was a kid, having the game transition from Jak 1’s happy traditional platformer to Jak 2’s action platformer with vehicles and guns and baditude would have blown my mind.
