I wonder whether the framerate standard for PS5 will also be 30

the allure of more graphics will always trump smooth motion

Honestly if Star Fox looked this good but played at the same framefrate it did on the SNES I wouldn’t complain

if the next generation doesn’t have smell-o-vision then it can just fuck right off.

Honestly I think the mass market cares about the quality of the graphics over frame rate, and the kind of games that do well with mass market audiences (narrative-driven stuff like Naughty Dog and Tomb Raider games) will probably be at 30 so they can take advantage of this jaw-dropping UE5 shit

Like honestly the tech behind UE5 is super impressive but I can’t think of anything I would want to play that would benefit from the added level of realism this tech enables, but then again I’ve been playing PS1 games for 18 months so what do I know. I’m drunk right now btw

in 2020, without owning a current-gen console, and without planning on owning a current-gen console

i am still thinking about fighting games that i will not play

the idea of just plopping whatever the fuck zbrush world you can dream up into a realtime engine with GI lighting and having it Really Just Work is the Actual Dream

no I get that and that is part of what I consider to be “impressive” but as a dedicated ps1 gamer do you think an extra ten billion polygons is gonna matter to me if your game is gonna have empty-feeling gameplay or an uninspired aesthetic

fuck I really shouldn’t have gone for round no. 3

you’re right

but also, big benefits are not necessarily increased on-screen detail but the productivity gains for creators and tangible increase to freedom, spontaneity, etc.

the possibility space of all things is limited by how annoying it is to do them

do you have any idea how many triangles Knack is gonna be made out of in Knack 3

Carl Saga voice: “Billions and billions and billions”

every console generation I see power used for fancier and fancier graphics

and every generation I get mad that this power isn’t used for making a game where like, a billion spaceships dogfight in a small chunk of space

save me Factor 5

It’s interesting that we accomplished visually infinite enemies in the PS2 generation and then, having achieved it, left it to Koei to work on their refreshing feeling by their lonesome

I love Taki Udon’s videos and linking this one because PS360 emulation ON THE GO seems significant.

I saw this last night and immediately disregarded it because they want like, $750 for it, and that price isn’t going to get all that much better. Also, that display looks like it could snap off the hinges or wear down real quick, and despite his shilling otherwise, it does not look comfortable at all to hold or play for any period of time. Also, I have a hard time taking his praise seriously when this came right after a suspicious, “every complaint and criticism i had about this was wrong, i’m definitely not shilling for these guys” video he posted a few days ago.

Youtube in general is super sus.
You don’t publicly need to say who produces and pays for anything.
You only have to say if you include paid promotion, and even then who checks?
Basically if they don’t put an ad in the video they’re good even if the whole video is them shilling a product or promoting a non-disclosed agenda.
