as many people are pointing out on the tweeter, this whole thing is somehow not even his worst take: https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2012-08-17-alex-hutchinson-game-journalists-exhibit-subtle-racism
huh!
i see heâs friends with fish and blow
I donât think itâs an entirely unrealistic scenario that for RockStarâs next (or even next next) big game they make deals with Youtube and Twitch so that they get a cut of all streamer and video content creator revenue that features that game and then that slowly becoming the norm for at least AAA but yeah
Current game partnerships with Twitch and Youtube resemble console manufacturer/NVidia/AMD dev partnerships: they provide APIs, documentation, and learning free of charge to facilitate developers using their system better. The streaming sites are actively offering hooks for game developers to add voting, in-game HUDs, and the like, in the hopes that it drives more viewership to their platforms. Devs are taking their advice and tools because they want to build a game that performs well on streaming platforms.
I donât think an independent publisher like 2K would look to ask for streaming revenue because theyâre already getting outsized benefits and itâs too dangerous to try to upset the cart. But companies that own the video platform and the games â Googleâs Stadia and Youtube, Amazonâs game studios (hah!) and Twitch, and Microsoft and Mixer before they bowed out â they can deeply integrate their media platforms in a way that doesnât place a burden on the video streamers they rely on for content, because they win on both sides. Thatâs where Iâd look to see experimentations with this.
Remember that we live in a world where the fragmentation of games press and proliferation of influencers has allowed game marketers to much more selectively give early preview access to favorable voices, and sometimes pay them directly, while shutting access to perceived critical voices with fewer repurcussions. This might change as influencer churn reduces and the streamers become legacy brands in their own right with an eye towards keeping parties and audiences happy but the chaotic space is more open to direct company influence.
the limited edition of old fire emblem doesnât contain any kind of physical copy of the game, and the download will only be available for a limited time only
nintendo were always the disney of videogames, and theyâre really trying to cement that position
Fire Emblem games were cool until the 3DS Wife crap which is ironically what saved the series to begin with. That being said even the cool ones suffer from the fact that perma-death is a load of horseshit imo. Shining Force superiority all the way.
More games should rip off the Langrisser model of mixing disposable footsoldiers who have permadeath with hero units who donât, IMO.
It seems like an ideal blend of both worlds to me.
Nintendoâs control of their print runs has been an understated strength for decades. Even when they moved to discs, only Nintendo could sustain $50 prices on a game more than months old, even across the life of a system. Even the biggest third-party publishers canât hold to more than 40% asking price of a disc a year out from launch.
I assume theyâre trying to replicate that with digital but this is real gross stuff.
Persona games were cool until the PS2 Waifu crap which is ironically what saved the series to begin with.
Gah! Although I would argue itâs the hang out with your friends vibe more than the romancing that really won people over for Persona.
FYI the Taco Bell Xbox giveaway thing started today and runs for the next couple weeks. Staying true to the letter and spirit of sweepstake laws (which is why these contests require the âno purchase necessaryâ and âa purchase does not increase chances of winningâ disclaimers) you have three chances per day to win. From the official rules:
Online: An entrant may visit https://winxbox.com/ (âWebsiteâ) during the Game Period and enter his/her valid e-mail address. If it is the entrantâs first visit to the Website, then he/she must complete and submit the registration form by providing the requested information, which will include but may not be limited to: e-mail address, complete first and last name (initials are not permitted), address (P.O. Boxes are not permitted), city, state, ZIP Code, phone number, date of birth, and confirmation the entrant has read and agrees to be bound by these Official Rules. The entrant then must enter a valid Code and click Submit to obtain a Game Play. Upon completion of the Game Play, the entrant will receive a Game Notification on the Website screen. Sponsors will also notify the potential winners via e-mail using the e-mail addresses provided by the entrants during registration.
âŚOnline Code Request: Between 12:00:00 AM PT on October 22, 2020 and 11:59:59 PM PT on November 4, 2020 , an eligible consumer may use the following Codes: SX7YR97XYV96, SX7V936NBPP9, SX7NLYZNHCZ6 (each an âOnline Codeâ). You can game this if you want to increase your chances you just have to keep signing up with new emails but it also requires a new phone number for each email so if you really wanted to go this route I guess you could enter random phone numbers or use friends and familyâs (but probably get their consent first).

I wonder if you would have a higher chance winning the PS5 since most people are more likely to try the website than to actually mail a piece of paper. But then I also wonder if anyone is even going to open whatever pieces of paper do get mailed in and the whole bit isnât just there to stay compliant with the law.
lol
Yeah I think the assumption is everyoneâs using the same three codes and itâs just tracking how many attempts the email/phone number has made. If itâs tracking anything at all.
yeah but doesnât that then mean that those codes absolutely cannot ever win?
Itâs probably just using them as an activation system for putting the cell phone numbers in a hat.
Yeah I think itâs just to activate your roll on the random number generator.
entering these things blow unless you happen to be like, darryll from san bernardino or meryl from plfugerville.
I won one of these things before and Iâll win one again.
Then Iâll promptly sell it and buy groceries and a special bottle of gin and maybe a model kit if thereâs any money left over.
Canât wait.
