Also waiting til later to play Amnesia, didnât care too much for Soma despite the excellent art direction and atmosphere. I just felt too curated and meticulous, could sense every intense moment before it happened.
The best (i.e. my favorite) one of these is Alien Isolation until proven otherwise.
I couldnât resist starting Amnesia: Rebirth in the middle of the night last night when it unlocked. I played the first three hours or so, despite having work in the morning, and I hope to play it some more this evening.
So far Iâve found that they do a good job of making me feel as if I am choosing one of many paths (physical routes, I mean, not story branches) but I suspect I am being guided along more than it seems.
They picked the most unpleasant sound to use when you are taking damage or frightened. I like it. Thereâs already more cosmic horror than I was expecting. But I donât think things have really started going yet at the point Iâve reached so far. (Not to say it hasnât been engaging already.)
Edit:
For those with Amnesia on the brain, Bulletpoints Monthly is running an issue on the series. Two articles have been posted so far, one on TDD and the other on AMfP, both worth reading.
As for me, the sun has set⌠time 2 game.
a company called unis has announced what appears to be a garish propcycle knockoff

speaking of simulationism
(ngl this looks like right up my alley uh oh)
this looks triumphantly stupid
oh god itâs already on ios
Alright, one down, I wonder what the next Frog Fractions 2 minigame to be turned into an actual game will be. Iâm placing my hopes on Active Time Battle Chess.
If itâs baroque, donât fix it.
strongly hoping for a localization!
The Destiny Beyond Light CEs shipped two weeks ahead of the expansion and the lore in the 46 page tchotchke journal is melting my brain
Summary
Clovis Bray, the patriarch of this universeâs Weyland-Yutani family-owned megacorp, is obsessed with becoming the Last Universal Common Ancestor (LUCA) of humanity after communing with an alien artifact he stole from taikonauts on the moon.
Like Jeffrey Epstein but if he were a Stanford grad-cum-trillionaire in the ambiguous spacefaring future.
To this end, he follows the directions of the artifact that he has dubbed Clarity to Europa, where Clarity Control resides under the ice.
His original plan to become immortal went awry when his son developed an incurable prion disease due to gene editing so he wouldnât have to (read: could not) sleep.
He next put his son in an artificial body (called an Exo) by âdecantingâ (sickos-ha-ha-yes.jpg) his sonâs mind into data stored on paradoxically âquantumâ âsolid stateâ storage.
His son died by âtearing himself apart like a starfish with wasting syndrome.â Not a minimally viable product imo.
He raids a research university on Venus to steal a different, robotic alien because Clarity Control told him to build a stargate.
When his team passes through the stargate, they find a hypergiant star that has been artificially sustained for 13 billion years by the great electric pressure cooker at the center of the universe.
The robots needed metal at a time when there wasnât much heavier than helium, so they pulled up their bootstraps and got to work becoming an affront to creation.
After initially being disappointed by tfw no immortality, he decides that the protozoic viral thought organisms that drive the robot aliens are the key that Clarity Control meant to show him.
He describes them as âmalignant oncomemes.â Language is a virus.
He makes an assembly line of âvolunteersâ who are decanted into their new robot bodies with the malignant oncomeme secret sauce he has taken to calling alcohest in a very normal not megalomaniacal way.
They still immediately lose their minds, initially with Cotard delusion then what is best analogized to losing your anti-terror field to Human Instrumentality at the End of Evangelion.
Iâm drowning in gourmet technobabble and psychosomatic horror like a pig in shit. Iâm frothing at the prospect of what is too good to go in the limited edition glossy mag.
I donât know how Bungie has been so good at narrative through naming since they were four college dudes but itâs persistently been one of their greatest virtues
I even deliberately paraphrased most of the proper nouns! aaaaaa itâs so good.
Another wrinkle to this if youâre not a glutton for Destiny marketing material is that NONE OF THIS is in the âstory trailerâ so this is another campaign/endgame red herring lore bomb, but like Forsaken I am also excited for radicalized revolutionary aliens telling humanity to fuck off.
I think I inhaled some of that universal solvent, Iâve got the vapors
sorry for party rockinâ triple posting but also where are my manners, hereâs a link (no destiny knowledge required, can be read as short epistolary SF)
