as a souls junkie I’ll love playing bluepoints mess but I’ll constantly be shitting on them over various aesthetic choices, mostly those relating to monsters, since they just ignore everything I love about demon’s souls awkward, uncanny monster designs to make them more standard and “evil/badass” looking. weird detals just thrown out, ignored or smoothed over.
liked the impression I got from that ffxvi trailer. it looks wildly unimpressive compared to ff7r but I just kinda like that the medieval setting is kinda plain and shitty for the parts we see?
It’s also a good example of how much information is lost in any of these projects. Hundreds of decisions are made every week that try to express a tenuous creative alignment. Reaching any sort of cohesive, shared vision is the hardest problem at scale and even the best projects only barely achieve it.
Handing off a bundle of assets and code gives another team only a small portion of the context they need to work with it.
i hope somebody makes a mod to put the strange proportions of the original demons souls back in, i deeply enjoy those spindly little arms.
the power of the crystals has shaped our history for long enough… people have been saying this!!
haven’t played any of these since uh 12 so don’t know what parts are new but did enjoy hearing the voice drone on about crystals and then sort of waking up with a start and having no idea what i’d just heard. the soldiers at the start look like a british indie band called the dapper lads.
I hope at least we’ll get some of the positive possible results of that sort of attitude. I don’t think it would be a travesty for grass to work like Bloodborne vials instead of carrying 99 everywhere, for the Thief Ring to get nerfed, for poise break not to be a pure function of damage, for Maneater to either be a little bit more balanced or at least for the walk to the boss room to be shorter, and most of all for Old Monk matchmaking to actually work more than 5% of the time
Those are all things you can find me griping about on the original SB Demon’s thread in 2009, and to this day I still think they are unforced errors that undermine the Demon’s experience. They’re the reasons I don’t plan to ever play Demon’s again but instead prefer to just watch let’s plays of new players who haven’t figured out the cheeses yet
Also if they rebalance Demon’s like I want, then 6 months later an enterprising ROM hacker will release “PS3 Demon’s balanced like Bluepoint edition” hack and finally there’ll exist a version of Demon’s I’ll want to replay
I can agree with this but would want to change as little of 3-2 as possible besides the black-phantom octopusheads. That section’s whole heart-beating body horror ambiance, along with the blood swamp and catwalks hanging in the void, is unbeatable.
honestly an ugly version of demon’s souls where your character vocalises every roll and you find some dickhead’s “tongue but hole” message on your first trip to the nexus seems an appropriate way to close out 2020
I want to do this and have no instance limiting on the scream so instead of the character cutting themselves off when doing a new action it just adds another instance of the 10 second scream into the game until it becomes a cacophony of yelling
THAT’LL teach the player not to do things
it’s a game in which the only enjoyable experience is to remain as still as everything else in the game
XVI is bound to be more coherent in both gameplay and story than XV. And after FVII, also hearing that XIV is dope, I’m optimistic and not put off by the drab fantasy look they’re going with for once.
