they’re different, though. not everything on the console version is on pc and vice versa, even if the games are on both platforms.

Game pass on PC is the worst software in the world, for real. No amount of money is worth dealing with that app framework or that package manager.

you sound like me talking about node.js

i cannot in good conscience recommend anybody play any microsoft shit on PC that requires you to interact with the windows store or any of the like, three shitty xbox apps that barely work

Xbox Series X confirmed at $500 and the Series S at $300.
Release date November 10.
The actual news though is that EA Play will now be included with Game Pass which I think will mean that all of EA’s titles (even the sports games and The Sims) as well as old ones will be included in the subscription.

god what a fucking miserable press release. ONE OF THE GREATEST FORMS OF CREATIVE EXPRESSION and all the AMAZING NEW GAMES they want to sell this enormous hell box to me with are huge AAA franchises lol. im absolutely gonna spend 500 dollars just so i can see fifa 20 in 120fps or whatever the fuck. hey microsoft they already made the best soccer game ever and its fuckin Neo Geo Cup '98 so try and fuckin beat that with your 4k water-cooled whatever

course, without internal studios all of this summer’s preceding Xbox events have been exclusively small games…which aren’t capable of creating any consumer need for new hardware

honestly I’m starting to fail to see why we need new boxes every 2 years anyway. maybe I should stop playing videogames before the cynicism swallows me whole…I love to win prizes. But at what cost?

Has electronic arts had any major hits in years? Apex I guess, but that’s already free. Maybe this EA x MS partnership is better for EA than MS.

It’s funny because my PC Gaming experience of the last 7 years has been remarkably free from frustration and using GamePass on PC is the most glaring exception. Like I got to play some stuff I never would have otherwise for $5 a month but I’m not sure the entire experience was a net benefit. Also a lot of those GamePass games have been popping up as freebies on the Epic Store and Twitch Prime so :man_shrugging:

you don’t need a new box every two years. these things are largely replacing boxes from 2013 or 14 or whatever the hell it was. this game pass + EA thing + series S $600 for 2 years bit is perfect for a whole lot of the dude bro gamer market, and with enough wiggle room to also appeal to, like, …me? I dunno, there’s a lot of flexibility with what you get from both versions of game pass and this EA thing. it’s not exclusively AAA stuff at all, the focus is just going to be there because you don’t need a new box to play a lot of the smaller games. I could see this thing working. and from a pure hardware perspective the series x at $500 is a strong deal. its GPU is going to be within like 10-15% of a 3070, and you get, uhh, the rest of the system with it at the same price.

whither cuda

ā€œbuying a non-Nvidia GPU and considering it a good valueā€ right now is basically on par with ā€œbuying an Intel CPUā€ and ā€œpaying for a subscription service from microsoft.ā€ we know all of these things are bad, the value offering is irrelevant

Is there a sort of analog from Halo Microsoft can borrow from, like they did when they brought Cortona into our actual lives?

the only thing I know about cuda is that developers and some amalgamated blob of ā€˜professionals’ think its important, which is great for them, but I’m a guy who holds a controller and presses forward through the pretty pictures, a gpu is a pure numbers proposition for me.

PC Game Pass is a horrible software but I got to play through so much stuff with it and would sign back up if I opened up my laptop for more than 2 hours a month.

I think the more interesting conversation is this is absolutely going to pay off for Microsoft and then owning video games will finally be in the past just like television and film.

if only – it will always be vastly easier to pirate authoritative, obscure, or broadly-best copies of television and film

yeah I still own a ton of movies and TV and music, I get them from rutracker and rarbg et al. and I don’t pay anybody a goddamn dime and it rules. meanwhile videogames past like, the PS2 era are annoying as shit to download and it’s not exactly a 1:1 experience either depending on what you’re playing. I think it’s still gonna pay off for Microsoft because nobody has any fucking money anymore, but still.

Can’t remember where I heard it but apparently FIFA Ultimate Team and its microtransactions make enough money to keep all of EA running, everything else is a pure profit maker
