Street Fight Money V

Well I have to factor in that I suck.

the only trial I’ve had trouble with so far is Bison’s last one. I can only get the super to come out on P2 side.

HOW DO YOU FIND THE TIMING? I keep droping shit and IDK why.

if I can do it you can do it

the timings for some of the links are fairly tight (though to the Good Players they are considered very loose), but most of them are straight mashable. anything that is, say, one medium normal into another medium normal, or a hard into a light, you can just keep mashing the second normal during the animation of the first.

but like SF4, some of these they appear to have gone out of their way to come up with shit that is either not usable, bad, or just a worse/harder version of something functional. I just did Dhalsim’s and you’d think he was a useless character with the shit they put in there. Vega’s trials had one combo that you might actually do. Bison had his bread and butter, which was nice, and Cammy had a few that were stuff you’d actually do.

some of these also apparently just lie to you. ken’s 9th combo is cr.HP crush counter, juggle light hadoken, ex. tatsu. but you need to dash after the hadoken to get the tatsu to connect, which they don’t bother to tell you.

sometimes trying combos just gets in your fucking head. I couldn’t do Nash’s 10th combo. I don’t think it’s as hard as some of the other ones I’ve done, but there are some things that my hands just will not cooperate with. like the combo will say DO X MOVE and I will, without fail, do Y MOVE instead. every time.

so I tabbed out of the game for a few seconds, then went back in and immediately did it.

these are the kinds of things I have to deal with in fighting games. it’s shit like this that makes so many combos 100% impossible for me to do in an real match under any circumstance.

Has dash elbow and stomp. All the choice normals still around. Seems to have lost DDT and Back+HP command throws in favor of the new Mini Stun Gun Headbutt. Flash Chop seems to have a Laura-style follow up into command throw, rather than triggering a stagger/turnaround state. Superman jump attack more divekicky angle.

well, I finished all the trials for everyone. I guess I am now officially a Street Fighter Expert

you don’t even get a title or an achievement or anything for doing this

I learned I have a hell of a time canceling charge moves into supers on P1 side

the hardest part was having to go into the command list ten times for every character because I don’t know any of the move names

You get Fight Money for finishing them, though. Wasn’t paying attention as to whether it’s on a per-trial basis or based on sets of 10. But regardless, I blew through them last night and got a nice bit of free-ish Fight Money for doing it. IMO the most challenging one by far is Karin simply cause of that one stupid trial that makes you do JF Tenko > Orochi juggle. Doing cMK > JF Tenko takes practice enough, but I still don’t get how the juggle afterwards works. Swear I’m doing the command dash ASAP and the shoulder from the dash ASAP but I have yet to stick that damn trial. Really surprising because I expected to get stuck on something like Chun sMP > cMK > SBK (which thankfuly is not in that mode).

Not really a fan of most of the combos in those trials, though. The vast majority of them are easy, but not very practical for real matches. Some of Bison’s were kind of practical. Free Fight Money is free Fight Money, but if you want to learn GOOD combos for your character, I think YouTube is a much better resource. (An even better resource is doing your own homework with SF5’s surprisingly robust lab, but that takes a more adventurous/experienced type of player.) Really silly not to teach optimal/practical combos in a game where the execution bar is at its lowest in franchise history.

Didn’t look at what the “Demonstrations” are, I’ll check those out later if I’m bored.

Also, Alex looks neat even if he has fry hair. New Jazzy NYC isn’t super great, but it doesn’t really offend me. I’ll comment more in depth on Alex when he’s actually released.

BI figured the Karin shit was the hardest, but I’ve spent a decent amount of time with her in training mode, so I got through her shit pretty easily. Probably had the most problems with Ken 10 or Ryu 9.

You gotta plink the just frame tenko stuff on Karin. For the shoulder, do qcf and then hit down before you plink out the buttons.

Do people really start this combo from s.MP sometimes? I feel like I’ve only ever seen it done starting from crouching LP, which isn’t difficult once you figure out the dumb buffer trick.

Might you be having HDTV / Controller lag?

My monitor better not have lag, It’s designed not to have much. As to the controller. Maybe? I’m using a 360 stick. I wanna use my newer stick but MADCATZ is terrible. and it won’t work. idk

again maybe I just suck.

This should have been Mika’s default.

i can’t see her butt, censorship.

Looks like they swapped his lp and (close) mp both on the ground and in the air? That’s a long looking c.mk too. f+mp chop is an overhead? Huuuuuuuuuuh.

Yep. Watch Ricki Ortiz or GO1 or pretty much any top Chun player. That combo is possible but really hard, one of the few combos in SF5 I would honestly compare in difficulty to an SF4 combo. The trick is that not only do you have to start building down charge from scratch when you do sMP, but you also have to special-cancel the cMK as late as you possibly can. If you time it right, you’ll just barely have built enough down charge to do an SBK.

you can change the move display to inputs rather than names tho

lemme fix my face
