Even something like the overlong loading times between matches saps all goodwill from the game for me. Like, for Capcom fighters on the Saturn, they all had a “Quick Mode” box to tick which cut down loading for things like character select and other pre-fight options, but even without ticking the box it still loaded faster than SFV.
The cutscenes that appear in the (shitty) story mode make my PS4’s fans go apeshit, like it’s about to melt down. On an UE game. Game is the definition of skeleton staff.
If I could fantasy book street fighter v as well here’s a semi-realistic timeline of the next year with a few things catered towards me directly and no one else:
Arcade release announced around TGS for early 2017.
Season 2 DLC is announced at capcom cup and that there will be eight characters added because 2017 is the 30th anniversary of street fighter so sf v needs 30 characters. Bearing that in mind, I would use this model to celebrate the entire history of the series:
Eagle (street fighter)
Cody (final fight)
Sagat (sf II)
Oro (sf III)
C. Viper (sf IV)
Some dumb new character, hopefully the french doll with the guns (sf V)
Akira (rival schools, which kanzuki beach stage/secret sakura justifies)
Michelle/Baek/Devil/Prototype Jack/Bruce or some other random tekken 1 or 2 character to repay the akuma favor
But these holes, specifically when it comes to her options after damage, seem like they’re very much in line with how sfv has been constructed. Down with (outside of the corner) continuous pressure and all that? ‘Turns’ generally end very quickly, but with a small enough gap for there to be a choice. Karin’s ex-dp basically puts her in the same position as Alex after a powerbomb on opponent quickrise: minus on dash with a fast way to either close distance and counterhit or CC on mashed buttons. If anyone is dashing in at that level, they know what they’re risking. Plus, they very clearly didn’t want to give her anything approaching a dangerous anti-air option given how completely she can control the space in front of her.
I was actually wondering about this. My friend’s wife very easily got into evo top 8 with no prior fightman experience but she was definitely offput by Mika, and I’m not talking about the corner mixup shenanigans.
the usual crowd is busy regurgitating hundreds of articles complaining about mika’s ‘censorship,’ but honestly the new outfit is an improvement so i don’t care that much. she -is- supposed to be a professional wrestler and they all have ridiculous outfits anyway.
the lesson I learned from watching evo finals is that having good tools for avoiding pressure beats excelling in any particular area. Being able to dive in and out of situations at will unexpectedly feels way more important than being able to retain control.

the divide between video game fans and actual normal people is always real stark with things like this
i’m being glib but the way fucked up shit like pure-titillation-costuming for female characters is normalized by video games and gamers needs to be pointed out regularly
Yeah I’m like fuck that shit 90% of the time. I’m embarassed when I play in semipublic because of the silly costume and I would not pick Mika simply for that design alone.
It irks me that Mika’s outfits can’t legitimately be played for comedy. “Driven hyper-jock contractually obligated to wear feathers and heart pasties” could be good for at least a few good gags.
But as it happens, she dresses pretty much like cops and soldiers so it doesn’t make any sense and it’s just more dumb cheesecake.
I can’t get worked up over mika’s costume. she’s a wrestler, have you seen how wrestlers act? no part of her personality in the game comes off as sultry. she’s not rubbing her tits for the cameras. she’s a very enthusiastic cartoon character who screams really loud and enjoys performing wrestling moves. on the scale of poor female video game characters she’s pretty damn low.
