Street Fight Money V

it’s also a little fucking stupid that you can rank down from losing to people with 1000+ more lp than you have when you’re in fucking bronze. the system is weighted towards winning above all else. I can 2-1 a set against a a guy with 800 lp and I’ll gain a respectable amount, but if I lose 1-2 to a guy with 2500 lp I’m in the negative. I’ll let you guess which one of those outcomes is easier for me to pull off than the other.

This is in part why some online players get new XBL/PSN accounts once they reach the highest tier (Grand Master in 4? I forgot what it is in 5). They only gain one point per win regardless of what tier their opponent is, and lose a comical amount for a loss.

Think I’m pretty much done with this game.
Rollback is so bad I dont’ trust anything anymore.
I went for a throw, was two seconds in the animation, we were tumbling the damage was about to hit, I was gonna win and…

suddenly the game jumps to his ultra animation.

I loose.
He was frustrated I lost (playing with a friend)

I just can’t play like this.

Yeah, it’s really both weird and stupid, or more stupid than weird. Basically they didn’t put time sync checks in their code ater the start of a match, so the sides can drift away from each other and the one that’s ahead gets amounts of rollback that wouldn’t even exist otherwise (and on PC can force it on the other side by interrupting the program flow with alt-tab). They must have seriously botched testing somewhere along the way, and if they’d just used GGPO instead that would’ve been a non-issue.

Bison Main, Alex pocket here. DeusJester.

I’d just assumed rollback was experienced the same on both ends, until my game with @mothmanspirit. Usually I just back away from the fight when slowdown happens, expecting the opponent to do the same. I guess I should just continue to go nuts like everyone else.

I’m also getting a pretty remarkable amount of rage quits - maybe 4 or 5 last time I played, sometimes from players with 2000+ lp. I even had someone rage quit a casual match. As @geist said, it’s kind of inconceivable that this issue hasn’t been addressed.

Good rollback implementations, like GGPO and most fan mods, do split the rollbacks between both players. Yet another sign of just how rushed things were on SFV.

Truth to be told, it’s not even a rollback thing, the constraint would be the same without them, only your game would freeze all the time and/or lose the connection instead of rolling back. The rollback system merely made it easy for their programmers to somehow ignore a vital part of their netcode, ironically.

Have written rollback code before. Can confirm, Capcom fucked it up.

What happened was that the synchronization point changes when you use rollbacks. In an input delay system, you just sort of ‘ride the latency’ and hope packets don’t drop or get delayed. Rollbacks don’t need to synchronize this way, as they essentially add a free latency zone on top of the synchronization point equal to the total latency between players, but it appears SFV did it the same way. This means that all latency above the synchronization point is NOT synchronized or balanced in any way.

This is especially frustrating because the Cannons explicitly explained how this works in a gdmag article!!

So a friend sent me a new copy of SFV and it is a mis-aligned badly labeled piece of garbage?

hey, if it works it works

So does that mean they’ve broken the copy protection on retail PS4s?

I won my first ranked matches last night. I’m absolutely terrible at this game but fuck it, I’m hooked. It’s kinda weird how there are people in ranked who know all the impressive combos but not how to block though…

hardly see any rollback in tokyo!!

also i can’t stop playing this game, help

Is it true that the Honourable Japanese Netplayer doesn’t pull the cord when he’s about to lose every third match

I see ragequit jokes on my Japanese FG twitter feed.

So, uh, nope.

I’ve played online for dozens of hours and had I believe 4 or 5 quits so far. maybe there are more in the higher ranks though?

Absolutely

I was playing against someone with a 255 winstreak, beat them (because of course) and right on cue, blip

yeah yesterday I hit a career high of two ragequits in one night as I started to peek into the silver brackets

the bronze competition here is surprisingly stiff, even among the (still many, many) kens and ryus there are many competent players. it is good as I do face decent players every time I go online, though character diversity is still pretty low

I dont know how yall got the impression it worked. I said it was a piece of garbage. It is too.

Friend is getting another copy sent to me. Checked the disc before he sends it.

But dark souls iii is hear now so who caresssss

that’s probably very common in v
