Also Steven why the hell are you listening to anything Ruby tells you? You’d have a better time asking Amethyst to do your taxes.
Granted I’m more emotional than usual lately, but Christ, they earned the tears here. These two episodes may be the peak of the entire damned franchise, at least based on first reaction.
Just thinking back to the episodes, in particular that sequence of realization that Steven goes through in the second one, I keep sobbing. Like. I guess this is what catharsis is, huh.
imwto, air

Did we just get some Steven After Not Surviving action

it is kind of amazing that this show has so changed the landscape of kids tv so much that they can just make dogcopter get gay married as a throwaway gag
IKR. I keep forgetting it, which seems absurd because it feels like it should be written in neon somewhere, but it’s like the least interesting or important thing in these 22 minutes.
Never mind malice or misadventure, I wonder how many of those fractures are from CG neglect alone.
I keep thinking of the last few episodes of Battlestar Galactica (2004), and how they discovered it was basically a miracle the ship hadn’t already fallen apart around them from all the stress fractures through its structure.
Oh shit
Yeah, like. We’ve seen Steven take exactly that kind of knock, repeatedly. The shocking thing about Lars was, why didn’t he just get up? That was it?
Because we were inured by magical cartoon adventure logic. But he was just a human. And, so mostly is Steven. He’s just being held together, while… basically being dealt killing or crippling blows over and over. And because of perspective, we didn’t think to question.
That was immediately what i thought of. For as light and cartoony as the show usually is (which is for the best imo) it’s been grounded in “these characters have genuine emotional reactions to things,” which lets the fantastic stuff feel like it’s being explored in a real way. Like, yeah stevens a magical half-gem but of course he can suffer real harm. No wonder having his gem taken from him basically weakened him to near-death, his injuries were just catching up to him.
That scene with Lars was a huge sucker punch but it also felt like “yeah, obviously it’s gonna be different when a fully human kid gets involved in one of these fight scenes”
that scene, this most recent one and “SHES GONE” are the top 3 most shocking moments in this show for me. I love it! I’ve always loved this kind of children’s media best, where there’s always some very adult fears hidden under the surface
I just got why the ending theme is “Being Human.”
It’s what Steven has to learn how to be, again, after all he’s gone through.
You Have to Win the Game
I’ve been avoiding Twitter and generally just… open windows to the world, the last several days. Mental health break. But today I opened that tab a couple of times to post a brief message, and every time the timeline comes up I just see SU staff stanning Bernie.

EDIT: Or this. She immediately deleted it, but.

Sound design on this show.
I just noticed the drawn-out “chunnnnng…” of the exploded guitar strings after Steven blows out his, er, depression.
Also, someone had fun with Garnet’s thigh animation in this scene.

Some things change. Some things do not.
that rules but also i’m scared
Oh by the way, which one’s Pink?
