Star Wars Thread Episode II

torn between getting mad that andor is paced like a series of movies instead of a tv show and delighting in being able to just absolutely marinate in a series of meaty and emotional black box theater conversations with great actors inside of a cool 1970s retrofuture aesthetic

This is me but instead of the pacing the trade off is there’s no fun alien on andor’s heist team

i’m so enamored by how many little touches go into making the rebels and empire feel human and believable: the corporate guy stewing over a bowl of cocoa puffs, the ISB officers popping pills, the excitable theory kid, people distrusting the apparently loaded protagonist.

totally out of the shadow of the “mythology”

This show so far has been so much more in line with my own personal starwarps head cannon than anything else post episode iii really. I think it almost causes me to under appreciate it BC it’s like… Yeah this is obviously what the galaxy has been like while everyone else on screen was too busy talking about Jedi bullshit. But it is gratifying to see something that unfolds the subtext like this. Fingers crossed they will also deal with some of the implied weirdness of what happens to the lesser separatist planets after they realized their war effort was a sham. Or maybe a return to some good old fashioned trade dispute negotiations. I just wish there was a way they could bring some more weird alien guys into the mix. I promise it’s possible to do without being racist! You just have to believe

This is the only good thing that will ever come out of the fox/Disney merger

Also it was so exciting to see this guy show up after just finishing the bear. Wish him the best

I like that instead of being like “here’s glorp shitto” the show will instead have a character say “we don’t want to have another glorp shitto incident” and then you look it up and that incident was one line in a novel written 15 years ago about 10,000 people getting massacred

andor is really great. the writing is so good on a moment by moment level, but sometimes i feel like that just causes me to be even more let down that the macro stuff is still super predictable*

but the show will go down in history in my books for the way it is driving the content generators insane simply by allowing its characters to act like human beings

*having deep thoughts about the only two black people on the rebel heist squad both being ex imperials and also getting killed off. also really was hoping they were going to go another direction with the sweet innocent wunderkind idealist being too good for this dirty war. otoh skeen (sp?) getting killed has exactly the right amount of ambiguity for me, and is another thing that is sure to drive the EASTER EGG HUNTERS insane. was he really just in it for the money? or was he just testing andor? when he said “i don’t have a brother” was he just admitting that his whole story was a lie, or did he mean “i don’t have a brother any more” indicating that his death was behind him and he was not really out for revenge, but just interested in preserving his own life? the thing i like about this show is it is not exactly safe to assume the stupidest possible explanation is the ‘right’ one, it seems written carefully enough to want to make the audience deal with the equal chances of all those possibilities.

Are Star Wars loreheads uncertain about the genitals of humans and other species in the canon? Do they frown when a fanfic author dares to imply that Luke has a dick? Or has there been some piece of post-Disney canon media that has confirmed the existence of penises and vulvas?

i’m not sure it is like this for other fandoms, but there is this long running thing in star wars lore to insist that despite the similarity of characters played by human actors to earth humans, we can’t assume anything about them is the same as earth humans unless it is actually depicted in a canonical work. so for a long time there was a theory that paper books didn’t exist in star wars, etc.

im not sure if this is covered in the video, but the mandalorian had some kind of weird defecation closet sight gag that was the closest star wars canon had come to acknowledging peeing, but i guess because andor just basically shows imperial soldiers takin a leak it is confirmed. there was a similar kerfuffle when one character in an earlier episode said “shit” or something like that. IS SWEAR WORDS STAR WARS CANON???
