Star Trek Thread 3: The Search for Snout

Holly Hunter Riverdale Star Trek is, perhaps unsurprisingly considering how much I like Holly Hunter and Riverdale, the only one I’ve enjoyed since DS9.

I am willing to believe this is a totally idiosyncratic point of view since a) it does not remotely resemble nor is it anywhere near as good as TNG/DS9 and b) almost everyone I know who likes 80s/90s Trek can at least tolerate one of Voyager/Enterprise/SNW/Lower Decks/Discovery but I could not. anyway it’s decent

I can enjoy about one and a quarter of SNW and Lower Decks if you were to add them together

I cannot enjoy snw at all anymore after finding out captain pike is a dedicated zionist

it’s not really good enough to offset this particular stink

oh yeah it’s proabably been long enough that I can take another lower decks episode. I like it, it’s just SO DENSE with references that I have to watch in small bursts

I hit a really bad stretch where it felt like EVERY episode was like that. I think I had to take a break after the zefram cochrane theme park. They just sapped my resolve

They’re going to reveal that somehow this is also one of Riker’s holodeck programs.

Wow, I just watched an episode where Captain Picard almost turned into a pygmy marmoset.

He coulda gone swimming in his earl grey!

The way Gates McFadden delivered the last line, “he transformed into a spider and got a disease named after him” was one of the funniest moments in any Star Trek I’ve seen so far.

We also thought that was so funny. That episode is her soul directing credit too!!

gates mcfadden rules. she’s so good in the episode where the enterprise crew gets progressively smaller (god this makes the episode sound so much more unhinged)

“If there’s nothing wrong with me, maybe there’s something wrong with the universe” is an all-timer of a line.

they used a nice LUT for the shitty Tokusatsu forest sets in the Klingon scenes this week. this show is very TNG-brained, I still think it’s basically not great but its particular strengths and weaknesses are very palatable for me personally.

good yaoi baiting, plus they got the audience to imagine Holly Hunter fucking an 8 foot tall guy, and the episode resolution was completely gratuitous and militarily unjustifiable. we have not yet lost the cultural knowledge to make Worf Episodes.
