Star Trek Thread 3: The Search for Snout

I love this episode because every time someone brings up the 'transporters just murder and copy you" thing I love pointing out that you’re somehow conscious for the entire process as demonstrated by this episode, so they’re clearly some kind of Magic Technology that temporarily turns you into some kind of energy being.

I have this overwhelming dread that the new season of SNW will again return to the well for more of Dr. M’Benga’s Fight Juice

the gorn episode of strange new worlds just as shitty as expected more boring 5th tier alien knockoff shit. the one right after that was way more fun because it was more stupid spock love triangle sitcom shenanigans with chapel’s future husband roger korby who in classic snw tradition suddenly has a new accent. very fun ep although they did do the stupidest fanfic thing in the world and make trelane q’s son. anyway fun costumes, a wham song, and the first live action edosian who’s the new ship’s bartender. looking forward to this season being the usual 3/4 fun and 1/4 pissing me off.

I’m sort of torn on it because Nurse Chapel drinking a kung fu potion could concievably be the plot of a tos episode

I’ll never get sick of this game. Star Trek rules. lmao

The Xindi arc ending in going back in time to WW2 was not the hook I was looking for going into Enterprise s4.

I swear to god the rest of the season is not like that. In my heart I believe the show lost all hope of being picked up for a season 5 when they decided to do the worst possible sci-fi shlock right out the gate on a new season.

The only upside is that this finally resolves that terrible temporal cold war thing.

thinkin about my dad going dude you have to watch the new episode the ship shoots down some nazi planes! I remember recalling the stupid French resistance d-day episode from Voyager dejectedly and how there’s no way this could be better than that. I was right

Confirmed the Enterprise shoots down laser-nazi-planes in a New York skybox. Absolutely unhinged how quickly the temporal cold war is just resolved. Archer and Daniels stand in a space museum as the timeline magically repairs itself and 9/11 happens the way it was meant to.

I did start watching strange new worlds though and it’s kind of amazing how laser accurate

is of a statement because like wtf are you guys doing with the gorn and why was the first episode like the fuckin Orville but I like captain pike and the characters. The second episode was like yeah that’s some star trek which was great because the last new thing I watched was discovery season 1 of which the only positive thing I can say is “Tilly was a great addition to star trek online” lol

Really appreciate them making majel’s most prominent character in the original series a nutjob. nurse chapel cracks me up, I wish she had to chase and inject someone every episode with scientists juice instead of just threatening it

I also think pike knowing his future is a good conceit for a prequel and I like that you can tell why Kirk was better at his job even though he’s a nice guy. It’s also cool to see Robert April played by a real human finally.

I watched THE CAGE last night. I think I saw this once on TV, when I was like six.

What a fucked up way to start your tv show… the landing party threatens mass suicide because the aliens want to make a slave race of humans. And then Pike has to let the lady walk off with an illusion of him because it’s somehow the only moral thing to do since they cant actually do anything for her as the aliens had to reassemble her based on vibes and she’s totally fucked up as a result, doing the TOS young-person-in-old-makeup hunch/cower that they make the actors do when they’re supposed to be dying.

it rocks that both pilots fofr tos involve going to a desolate planet and atleast one member of the crew getting seduced by an evil shorty…though i like that in this one its subverted because Captain Pike spends the entire time shouting at her for wanting to fuck. I could not get over the master plan of defeating the talosians by imagining smashing their head in with a big rock over and over again. Pike pacing around the cell going "I’m filling my mind with hate!! " like he’s Richard Dix made me laugh so fucking hard

I have never seen TOS’s pilot episode which was a fucking fever dream pinball machine of an episode. there’s one scene in Sulu’s room and he has a ton of sentient plants? McCoy gets told to “stop thinking with your glands” by Kirk. Unbelievable

ohhhh i thought he said ‘stop thinking with your glans’ hahahahha

One of the best parts about Sulu’s botany room is that the weird “weeper” plant is clearly a hand shaped puppet but it looks awesome and is totally believable as a cool space plant

I like how the weird sucker alien was wearing a big net like clothes, like it’s trying to be people but doesn’t know how.

Hegemony, Part II had me like

These season finales and openers are always so blah.

I did like seeing a practical effects gorn, and I liked the horror of the ship literally digesting people for nutrients, including Ortegas’ hands, a pretty nightmarish visual and idea done very well, that had a believable purpose for happening.

I theoretically like the Pelia and Scotty’s dynamic as former student/teacher but am pretty wary about their every interaction being about Scotty and how to turn him into the TOS Scotty rather than giving Pelia anything unique or interesting to do. We already know this guy! We don’t need to focus on this!

Wedding Bell Blues was quite a fun, Rhys Darby as a TOS-style space god is a delightful casting pick.

Good performances all around, I like how Spock had to team up with the man who hath cucked hime.

Looks like we have confirmation that there will be a Season 5, and that it’ll be the final season, and it’ll be a shorter one at 6 eps. It’s fucking insane that Paramount is incapable and unwilling of letting its breakout hits thrive. I’m sure it’s somehow more profitable to can the series, very “vault the finished movie for a tax writeoff” ghoulish stuff.

I suppose it’s good that the SWN staff knows about it now, so they can at least plan an ending.

Eagerly looking forward to the Jonathan Frakes ep, which is #4 this season, while also being extremely enfeared of the fucking “everyone turns into vulcans” gimmick ep they seem to have in the chamber for the third-to-last slot.

I’m only on season 1 obviously but episodes 3/4/5 have been so fucking good its almost unbelievable for a modern star trek show. I loved the moth disease episode because it’s like classic TOS and then they followed it with like a submarine warfare episode just for me! And Spock Amok in particular is like completely insane Tumblr bullshit I’m living for right now. Dr. M’Benga’s fly fishing hat!!!

I can’t get over chapel’s weird pseudo-ma5 flight jacket, long skirt, geometric fanny pack and moon boots

@Mothra and I played some mission in Star Trek Online yesterday where we had to slow down the doomsday machine by feeding it warp cores and it kind of felt like we weren’t really doing anything for fifteen minutes…but then some lady flying the Enterprise showed up to crash it into the machine and Scotty inexplicably identified her as Captain Kirk??? I love that I’ve been playing this for 15 years and I still find new weird shit that doesn’t make sense.

Doctor … it appears Jim has gone woke
She’s transgender now you green blooded vulcan GET USED TO IT

impossible to form an opinion about this yet on the basis of one trailer, esp since it’s like 90% very bland boilerplate monologue stuff and uninteresting images, but with a stinger of paul giamatti in ridiculous alien makeup whistling the star trek theme. what is the tone of this going to be…

it takes place in the discovery 32c future where they couldn’t build new ships for 100 years so i really don’t know what the tone is going to be but I can’t get over holly hunter, the 900 year old emergency medical hologram actually looking like an old man, and of course like you said paul giamatti so I will probably watch it lol

The starfleet academy FMV game is one of my favorite star trek things ever so I’m a sucker for this shit…
