2d stages in 3d games are something they keep trying that never really works. they were bad in generations and forces, too
3-6 and the fourth island really work for me, idk
arrived at second island today, still having a good time just running around a lot and discovering stuff!
also, german VO knuckles/Eggman sounds wrong if you have seen the two movies, but alas, at least there were two ![]()
The thing about 3-6, I feel, is that, even though I don’t think it’s actually any longer than other levels, it allows itself to have a handful of distinct concepts, and allows itself to iterate them in various ways. It builds upon itself. Compare to that 3rd world level that has…wind? That blows you to the edges? It is for sure a concept, but then the level does nothing with it, aside from believing that it on its own is enough.
In other words, the cyberspace stages for sure need more gimmicks–especially if they’re only going to draw from a handful of aesthetic templates.
n.b. this game also looks awesome in some places
if you can manage to stop yourself from going fast, faster and fastesssstttttt
if they study freedom planet 2, spark 3, or even the roblox levels they’ll have enough design work to breathe fresh ideas into the stage design. freedom planet 2’s feel a touch long for this mode but every stage has an excellent hook
i feel good about their ability to crib from others — it’s distinctly non-nintendo and makes frontiers feel conversant
for the open zone i just want them to get weird with the terrain. show me (something like) mushroom hill rendered this way!
Some of the cyberspace levels are incredibly easy to 100%. Others seem damn near impossible to get the S time on unless I’m missing a path somewhere. I am a sicko who mostly enjoys those stages.
what do the difficulty levels do? my guess is just how many rings you lose/how much health a enemy has but ive only had an hour with it so far
folks out here dropping sonic 06 hubworld architecture on the map with their custom forces avatar
apparently, there’s a true last boss you only fight on hard mode?
that’s right. make sure you’re on hard mode before collecting the clear emerald on the fifth island
I honestly don’t know how it affects damage/health, though
i have had this on my xbox for a week and i’ve barely played it even though i liked what i’ve played so far, i don’t know why i keep putting it off.
it’s weird because this game is the one Sonic game that my non-SB, non-internet, Real Life friends who mostly play Overwatch and Warzone and God of War Twenty Eighteen are talking about and playing as well. am i too worried i’m going to be completely disappointed, like a Schrodinger’s Hedgehog of sorts?
i also just finally started getting into Persona 5 and playing a lot of that instead so maybe that was just poor timing
don’t feel pressured by playing it, just because everyone talks about it, is what i learned a long time ago. You’ll get around to it when the time is right, and if that’s a year after everyone else played it (which they don’t, because some put it off and will take it up if you post enthusiastically about it) so be it - only thing is if you dislike spoilers, make sure you stay away!
(fwiw, notable games i put off over the years:
Red Dead #1
Valkyrie Profile 2
FF13, -2, -3
FF15
Last Guardian (together w/ FF15, because Watchdogs2 came out at the same time)
Deus Ex: MD
Persona 5
Star Ocean 6
Horizon Forbidden West (latter two because of Sonic SF and Steelrising, a Bloodborne Clone set in 18th century Paris)
…
it actually makes me value a game more that I am coming back to over other high profile titles, because it keeps you invested, and that’s what every game wants… so in short, it wins over all the others ![]()
I’m never playing this game but I wanna hear great tunes, so can someone link me to some of their favorite tracks in this game?
Sonic Stranding: Automata of the Wild
ETA: According to the spreadsheet I made, my favorite cyberspace stages tend to have my favorite music, which is a nice thing to have happened.
Thanks for the list! Love to hear Tomoya Ohtani go wild. Him and Fumie Kumatani were some of my fav unsung composers on Sonic Team games. Always glad to hear more of their stuff!
Whoa, weirds me out for a sec when this song uses the same choir sample that MGS1 did in like Psycho Mantis’s song or somewhere

wow that’s cutting a huge check
