So I'm Hosting A Movie, On Twitch, Like In A Few Hours

It’s that time again; this month’s screening takes place TONIGHT (2021-01-25T05:00:00Z2021-01-26T06:00:00Z), which is actually triple header (for reals this time).

First we have the advertised double header, which kicks off with Symbol, which some of you might have heard of? It stars Hitoshi Matsumoto stuck in a room filled with pensises on the wall…

After that is (up till this point) the first & only sci-fi flick to produced in Ethiopia, one of my fave films that virtually NO ONE talks about, Crumbs…

Finally there’s the “bonus feature” that doesn’t fit with the theme of the two previous flicks, but is instead a screening of the movie that’s part of my monthly email blast…

As usual, the show starts at 6:00PM PST/9:00 EST, over at Wonderville NYC’s Twitch channel…

So I keep forgetting to mention these earlier, though I’m not sure if it really matters or not, yet it’s just as well cuz the line-up for tonight (2021-02-23T02:00:00Z2021-02-23T08:00:00Z has just changed…

It’s that time of the month once again; am going to be streaming some movies, over at the Twitch stream belonging to that art cade/bar in Brooklyn.

The theme this is month is love and robots, and first up is something that inspired a bunch of chiptuners and circuit benders in general that I know…

Next is the only real blemish on the IMDB listing for Park Chan-wook (Sympathy For Mr Vengeance, Oldboy)…

And once again, I’m showing a bonus movie, alongside the advertised double feature, but there’s two this time! With the first being the Andy Kaufman & Bernadette Peters as runaway robots movie that you had no idea existed…

Lastly, a very last-minute addition, is a nod to the big news of the day, aka the disbanding of Daft Punk…

As usual, the show starts at 6:00PM PST/9:00 EST, over at Wonderville NYC’s Twitch channel…

Here we go again; got another screening tomorrow night, and as usual, there’s a theme: teachers who are out control

The first flick also involves a cat that comes to town, which can see people for their true colors… literally. And that ends up causing problems… massive problems; since there’s no trailer to speak of online, I had to post some footage on Twitter…

https://twitter.com/FortNinety/status/1376338072284061696

The second an all-time fave of mine, about a super cool among the kids, high school science teacher that becomes bored and decides to build an atomic bomb. He then starts making demands, and once they’re met, he becomes bored again…

And last but not least is a gem from Takashi Miike that I’ve barely heard anyone say a peep about…

Showtime is 2021-03-30T01:00:00Z2021-03-30T07:00:00Z, over at the Twitch channel for Wonderville NYC, which is like an even more hipster-fied version of Barcade (all the arcade cabinets are based on indie games, and with a few exceptions, most notably Killer Queen, are also one of a kind)…

So this is pretty last minute, and not a movie, but hopefully some may have noticed by now that, when I’m not showing movies on the last Monday of each month, I show other stuff instead… mostly tv shows that many have either forgotten about or never saw in the first place.

Including No Continue Kid, a J-drama that concerns a trio that are connected via their love for video games. Been showing an episode a week, for the past several weeks, and tonight I’m showing six episodes (the first half of the season) all in a row…

… The screening will be 2021-04-06T01:00:00Z2021-04-06T04:00:00Z, over at https://www.twitch.tv/wondervillenyc

Oh shit, I totally forgot about this thread; not sure if it has been beneficial or just annoying. Been a few screenings since, and hopefully some of you have been following along! Anyhow, later tonight (as of this writing), is actually a compliment to the thing I last mentioned…

… Am going to be showing all 12 episodes, start to finish; for those unfamiliar, am pretty confident in saying that it’s the alley of most Select Button-ers (apologizes in advance if the subject has been talked to death; alas have been too busy to follow the regular chatter)

Again, it’s happening in just a few, 2021-06-07T04:00:00Z2021-06-08T07:00:00Z, over at https://www.twitch.tv/wondervillenyc

So, things are opening back up, cuz “things are back to normal”, but I don’t care, I’m still streaming… like later tonight! There’s a theme, maybe you can figure it out by checking out the trailer for what’s on tap, starting with…

… For more info, simply click this link (and yes, “MYSTERY MOVIE #3” is listed twice, that’s totally my fault): FORT90 FILM CLUB presents: "GIRLS, GIRLS, GIRLS (& GHOSTS)" — WONDERVILLE

I know it’s late notice, once again, but tonight’s gonna be a long one, so long in if you can! 2021-06-29T01:00:00Z2021-06-30T08:00:00Z

So… this is the BIG one; am celebrating my 2nd year as a film programmer at that hipster indie art-cade/bar that I’m associated with, Wonderville (which, if I haven’t already explained, is the permanent home for the once nomadic Death By Audio Arcade). And it’s going to be a simultaneous online (via the usual Twitch URL) & in-person (the films are going to be projected in the middle of the arcade) screening, featuring my fave, hand-picked selections from the racer trash catalogue.

What’s racer trash? The more thorough answer can be found in a recent write-up by The Verge, but long story short: a bunch of bored editors in LA, during the onset of the pandemic last year, decided to deconstruct Hollywood productions and reconstruct them, by infusing them with vaporwave a e s t h e t I c, if that makes any sense.

They should also be somewhat familiar; I screened their first two movies this time last year (see above). The broadcast will be seven hours long, and includes (among other things), Vapor Mario Bros (their feature length reinterpretation of the live action Super Mario Bros movie)…

And just yesterday I tweeted the trailer for their recent tribute to Akira, aka Boards of Kaneda…

The 7+ hour long stream will start at 7:30PM EST later tonight, that’s 2021-07-31T23:30:00Z2021-08-01T07:00:00Z. And if you’re in the area and wish to go in person, you can find addition info in the tweet above (as noted above: proof of vaccination is required).

Alright, it’s that time again, the last Monday of the month, as well as the last Monday of the summer? Hence tonight’s line-up, starting off with the ultimate “nature strikes back” flick…

Next is something I’ve been wanting to stream for a VERY long time, and this month’s theme finally affords me the opportunity; it’s not only one of my all-time favorites, it’s also widely regarded as an all-time classic…

Third up is not to be confused with Masahiro Shinoda’s film with the same name, but what many consider to be Nagisa Ōshima’s finest work…

Everything above will be streamed from the usual URL, starting at 2021-08-31T01:00:00Z EST. But then, after Double Suicide: Japanese Summer wraps up, I’ll be asking everyone to head on over to https://www.twitch.tv/fort90filmclub, for…

Basically, Wonderville is not just the online home for my own thing, but a platform for several others, so there’s always the risk of having the channel shutting down if I show something too risqué (i.e. if there’s nipples). But it also affords me to show stuff that might be deemed too offensive (and Last Summer features a scene involving sexual violence) and I also don’t want Wonderville to lose any subscribers cuz of that as well.

Oh, and I might use the channel to just randomly show stuff, unannounced, tho mostly at 3AM EST (cuz of TMNT: Turtles in Times), so feel free to follow that channel as well!

So, as noted in my last stream, the Criterion Channel is playing NYC movies all month long (to commemorate a thing that happened, on a specific date, but I can’t remember what) and while there’s some good stuff, others are MIA, so not only will I be showcasing my choices on the final two Mondays via Wonderville, I’m also going to show the spillover at my alt channel, at 2021-09-03T07:00:00Z, over at https://www.twitch.tv/fort90filmclub

… Yeah, it’s super last minute, but am still recovering from a hurricane. Sorry about that.

BTW/FYI: THE FRENCH CONNECTION is up next, at 2021-09-09T07:00:00Z; since the trailer gives away too much, as many back in the day often did, here’s a clip instead)…

i invented the game “grand theft auto 3” years before it was released, after watching the french connection for the first time. it’s a powerful film

it’s so good

I can’t believe how long it took me to watch Friedkin’s followup To Live and Die in LA, whose primary visual motif is faces getting blown off by shotguns

K, the Wonderville portion of my survey of NYC cinema (that Criterion doesn’t have on its end for whatever reason) starts tonight at 2021-09-21T01:00:00Z.

The lineup includes a basically unknown gem is a hard-boiled noir flick that’s shot almost in a documentarian style…

Everyone’s fave and NYC’s one true hero, sorry MCU stans…

A film that epitomizes late 70s NYC punk rock so much that every available trailer is basically unwatchable, hence the need to isolate a clip of a fight taking place in CBGBs…

And something that was best described by someone on Letterboxd as “It’s Brian De Palma’s “Jean-Luc Godard makes a porno.””
