Simple 2000 Series Vol. 81- The King of Fighters XV

Of course! This is the series that wrote Rugal’s hobby as “Resurrection.”

I wasn’t expecting Zarina to be arguably even goofier than Yuri but I do think the flower motif looks nice.

I was expecting a lot from Zarina, and she seems kind of generic in the end. Probably the most generic yet, of the new characters.

I guess there had to be one. Pretty much everyone else has been great.

Maybe I’ll warm up to her. I guess I feel like the archetypes here wore thin a decade ago.

She does look kinda typical for the archetype, but looks like fun to play. People picking at the video have counted a command grab, tons of lows, multiple ground overheads. Seems like she’s gonna be the Ken to Bandeiras’ weird hit-and-run non-Shoto Ryu. (Nelson is more like hit-and-never-run, I guess.)

Her being a capo was the obvious choice, but I’m still disappointed. Bob Wilson should have had her spot, not that they seem to play alike at all, but he was the already existing SNK capo and I’m down with more FF3-RB2 characters migrating into KOF. The toucan should have been a projectile…

I said the exact same thing about UNI’s Linne’s dragon friend to French Bread when they showed me an alpha build ages ago. Only in fighting games do we expect birds or other animal friends on characters to be projectiles, lol

I dunno, remember Maria in Dracula X?

It is so weird seeing Angel’s and Ramon’s moves fully animated in 3D. They always had these exuberant movements and it’s cool to see them in a new light. I feel like there have been several sexy jokey parts of super moves for female characters so far but I guess at this point it isn’t that surprising to see one more added to the list.

The game engine was internally developed by SNK. They were considering Unreal Engine earlier in development but decided not to go with it because the version at the time didn’t match well with SNK’s situations including their knowledge, budget, and potential risks. As a result it was inevitable that they were going to be bad with lighting and shadings, but given that they need to build up their knowledge, they went with their decision.

I’m fine with the overall aesthetics of KOF XIV at this point. It seems to run at a consistent 60 fps and looks like a HD Dreamcast game.

I’m another pro-14 voter…
(Even if it will force my hand into buying a PS4)

is there not going to be a steam release?? noooo!!!1

Welcome to the Bought-a-PS4-for-KOFXIV Club, friend.

Yeah, them using a custom engine in lieu of estabilished middleware lowers the chance of a PC version…

Oh well, I was going to get a PS4 anyway when they launched the new model, so I don’t feel really “forced” to buy one by this game

The packaging clearly says “PS4 Console Exclusive Game,” which is Sony for “there will be a PC port later.”

Yeah, the only other game on PS4 to feature that moniker was Street Fighter 5. I don’t know how the terms for that tag works but maybe it’s there just to leave open the possibility of a PC release inside of a certain timeframe rather than meeting whatever exclusivity timeframe just “PS4 Exclusive” merits.

SNK has also expressed how impressed they were with KOF13’s performance on Steam and how it influenced their decision to come back to making regular games. We’ll see how things pan out but they’ve been having their old games re-released PC on a consistent basis, even if they are mostly just repackaged roms, so it’s not like PC isn’t at least on their mind.

I can’t imagine SNK isn’t thinking about an eventual PC KOF XIV port. Steam has done wonders for their catalog and they’ve gone on record to say as much. So if you really wanna hold out, I’d check back in a year or so to see if they trot one out.

I bought a PS4 for KOF XIV, too, but I don’t feel that bad. Got GGXrd Revelator to somewhat justify the purchase in the short term, and hey, now I’m ready for Persona 5 US when that finally comes out (which ironically might be beat to market by a PC KOF XIV port, lol).

I’ll do whatever it takes to support this game because it is truly my favorite KOF to date. IMO it’s not even out yet and it already deserves to stand beside 98 as the epitome of Violent Fighting What Comes Again.

I figure KOF XIV might be PS4 exclusive, but who’s to say KOF XIV: Extra Subtitle Edition would be?

I bought KOF13, KOF 2k2 and KOF 98 on steam the other day. hopefully that convinces them :sunny:
