based on an actual conversation i had with a child a few years back (i forgot what we were actually talking about so only the last two panels are verbatim):
(i was gonna make this for make a terrible comic day last month but i never got around to it until now)
trying out the sumi e inkbrush thing lynda barry wrote about in one! hundred! demons!.. it’s fun, it took me a while to get used to the required inkstone consistency but i’ve even been enjoying methodically grinding that out when i want to draw. the drawings themselves are very arbitrary, just trying to get back into thinking abt “game ui” after a while of not thinking about it at all
All of you are amazing.
My friend’s dog came into the park ready to start some shit (in mostly a playful way) yesterday, so I made her this drawing:
I got Aseprite and now I can make PIXEL ART!

manipulated photo (it was only interesting in one dimension)

I wanted to learn Blockbench so I made a little low poly Daytona car

I made a chibi hornet skin for Buck Up and Drive that might fit this with some wiggling

Its based on this Hornet paper craft
I guess I’ll post this in the “art” thread, since I spent 30 minutes on it, which I suspect is a bit long to be considered a “doodle”.
I don’t know though…maybe it’s mischeviously irreverent to post this in the art thread. ![]()
“niece howls at a wolf behind a carton”

Something about the results this tool has been yielding is giving me a kind of “neo-PC-88” feeling.
Another figure drawing class yesterday. The model was a no-show so we mostly drew from sculptures
At the end of class my teacher asked me if I’d be interested in doing a solo show. We talked a little about that and I mentioned that I’d been taking classes there for 6 years which elicited a surprised response to say the least.
Later I poked around in my email and found the receipt from my first class. 6 years almost to within the day.
This is the earliest drawing I could find, made a few days after that class started on the 17th. I wouldn’t be surprised if I threw out the earlier ones, I was certainly self-conscious about how terrible they were and they were boring cubes and shit anyway. This feels like the first me poking through (lol)
And this is the most recent
Interestingly I also found a picture of some early notes from NoRA right around then, another major influence on my life. 2018 was apparently the start of some real changes and growth for me. I was 31 and something didn’t feel right. My life feels more complete now, I have so much more understanding of who I am and a much deeper connection to what it means to be a human. Maybe it’s just growing older, another 6 years of life and a pandemic to force a new perspective on myself and people. Maybe I’m just lucky, again. But maybe I had all of this already inside of me and I chose to listen at just the right moment. I don’t know, I can only be sure that rubbing a burnt stick on a piece of shitty paper is one of my favorite things in the world and go from there.
That’s some inspiring shit. Everyone should draw!! I am so glad so many people here do it and that they’re all bad ass…
trying my hand at one of those slender, semi-realistic sprites you see in horror/hard sci-fi games from the 16-bit days. still working on my shading. i’ll eventually figure it out!
