while grieving e3 we take solace in the other normie longform videogame binge event of the summer. accepted games list is out now, schedule on may 7th, event starts june 26th and ends july 3rd. it’s in-person again this time, though there are quite a few remote runners, which is encouraging.
my personal picks:
advance wars (ds) - any% no map glitch
bulk slash (saturn) - any% ng
f-zero gx (gcn) - story mode max speed very hard
ico (ps3) - any%
metal gear solid 2 (pc) - european extreme
nights into dreams… (saturn) - all levels any%
superhot vr (pc) - any%
Alisa - any % I guess just to see what this game is like more than anything, probably not a great run. Faith: Chapter III what the fuck this game is out?? GTA VC - any % love 3d GTA speedruns Silent Hill 4 any %
I guess I’m still hyped just to see my favorite linear games played really quick instead of wildly broken, hence GTA and SH4. but i’m also hyped for the MGS2 and SotC runs.
CV: Harmony of Dissonance (No OoB) Majuu Ou - oooh Super Mario All-Stars+World w/ACE – wait is this not going to be a TAS ??? Super Metroid Kaizo – I can’t believe they couldn’t get the WR holder for this /swhy couldn’t they get a better hack in this slot this will be an absolutely excruciating experience. i can’t wait
tuned into see the very beginning on the first run and immediately heard the runner say “small boi” and “heckin”…
feel pretty mixed about them returning to in person. i guess it’s cool to see to see the crowd again but the remote runs weren’t too bad, and at least people could enjoy not having to wear a mask or worry about illness. i guess having it in person means the event distinguishes itself more from the stuff they usually do.
randomly i watched an ESA event earlier in the year that was in person and it kinda reminded me of what GDQs were like before. like felt a lot more intimate and less… kid oriented i guess.
yeah I deffo prefer ESA and side shit, like the four job fiestas. GDQ is like disney sanitizing itself and it’s harder and harder to bring myself to care every year
I will catch some late night runs though and hope that something awkward seeps through
The last time I checked the WR before the translation was announced (around when I tried speedrunning it) was 18:00 so it’s cool that he shaved a quarter of a minute off. Good run overall if a bit less descriptive than I would have liked, excited for Bulk Slash Games Done Quick 2023
Yeah it’s been a long transition towards focusing on the presentation over the runs, I guess? And I mean that in the sense that instead of it just being some nerd nervously explaining mechanics, it’s more important to have someone with freaky youth pastor vibes/content creator stink saying “Alright this is the part where we double jump over the ghost so I need everyone here to yell OOGIE BOOGIE let’s go!!”
kind of annoyed the community donated to have the upcoming Vice City run be the regular edition instead of the new, weird looking Definitive Edition ://
If only we could return to a time where that one Castlevania run soundtracked by someone playing each stage’s theme on piano kickstarted a real trend. Hell I’d take a cappella or even barbershop than cringe forced enthusiasm and Memes
Just imagine a world where Save/Kill The Animals was replaced with a Samus cosplay doing theramin solos
prob is the thing i was most interested in watching this week tbh.
also KZ_FREW did end up running the Definitive Edition of Vice City after all. also he retired from speedrunning at the end of that run, which is a little sad… though i get it. i assume he’ll still stream though.
I thought those were both really fun segments. Probably my highlights.
I caught a bit of a Mega Man game this morning I could not identify, which was a PSP remake of the first game I guess. I like seeing games I’ve never seen before at these things, especially weird ports or versions.
