ahhh… NOW i understand why Ford Yurop decided to cancel building the Mondieu (no, it really is called the Mondieu, don’t believe anyone telling you otherwise) and we only get Kuga’s and Ka’s.
No, the 80s one is way worse in every way. The absolute nadir of cars.
cheap as hell Saabaru. a Saab and Subaru. I have always wanted one.
although if I’m getting a $3500 saab it’s going to be this 900 turbo, something I have ALSO always wanted.
ok so we may not have the sheer breadth of deranged craigslist vehicles down here that you do u pthere but we do got one thing
we got ladas
There is someone running a soviet car museum south of Seattle and I keep meaning to go, I’m not sure if it’s a Museum or someone’s tax writeoff, but every so often a few soviet cars trickle onto craigslist. Like this GAZ
why did you say the same thing twice
also now i want to go and also go to karaoke at that horrible train car place if it s still around
todays theme is “ran when parked”
Two local options if I want a Gremlin on Facebook Marketplace
Shockingly (suspiciously?) low miles on both
cue good ol’ french/italian classic owner joke:
well — with all the time it spent on the back of tow trucks and in repair shops, it made it quite far already!
The hatchback with a hatch that doesn’t even open. I love that shit!
look at this god damned shitbox, it’s glorious. I want it so bad. a miserable 80’s econobox GM sedan, but it’s so perfect and pure. BUT ALSO it has a stickshift, which makes it Fun To Drive
youtube has been feeding me car salvage videos, and there’s a guy who runs a salvage/recycling operation out of Kansas that usually does tours of his stuff, plus footage of crushing a bunch of cars, much to the dismay of commenters
anyway on an 8 month old stream tour of his junkyard he showed off…two Peugeot wagons! he said he can’t bring himself to crush them because they’re so unusual, and wants a home for them, I would email and ask about them if I had space for a 3rd car
That looks like a 504 wagon, and since the 504 has been produced (in the middle east/africa) deep into the 2000s iirc, you should be able to source parts even though it has been dropped in Yurope in 1986ish? — way too long ago. They surely will have switched to more modern electronics/engines, so you might have to retrofit things if you decide to mix 1980ies × 2000s part bins.
However, telling you from experience, parts supply is going to be a thing, esp if you have to source them a continent away.
The Nissan Skyline R34 is now legal to import and sell into the US, now that it’s 25 years old. and the only ones available are all SHITE. All of these have ugly (imo) body kits and wheel choices. This is like if the local used car lot was selling 350zs that had been owned by highschoolers
One of these is even a manual swap, you can still see the automatic transmission indicator in the gauge cluster. They want $60k for it.
None of these are the fabled GTR either.
I think the big question is that is anyone going to buy these? I don’t think so. The millenials who grew up on Gran Turismo 3 and 4 don’t have the jobs to afford an R34, and if they did they’d probably spring for a stock one.
If you ever wanna get me hepped up ask about the 25 year import rule, I’ve explained it a few times. Also ask me about LBJ’s Chicken Tax which is responsible for everyone driving child killer trucks
The chicken tax is the one that really chaps my ass
The what tax?
yeah we’re all ears
there is a 25% tariff on normal sized trucks entering the united states because we wanted to teach germans a lesson for not wanting to import our chicken in the 1960s
god bless
