select & button poll of the films

i dunno if stuff has been tallied but just making a post to mention that i changed one of my +1s

Alien is my actual favorite film (I think) but I only listed movies that I think don’t get the spotlight they deserve

yeah i showed my partner my list to check i’d not forgotten anything obvious and they said smth about how much i love ā€˜contemplative’ films. like fuck i guess so lol

i mean i feel like old mate’s films vary so wildly in tone, the pace is always slow and lots of cast reappear but otherwise things often feel different y’know

anyway i predict the top three will be Fire Walk, Stalker, and Touch of Zen tied w Robocop

what’s like the threshold for inclusion here? is it like top 85, x votes, or like everything gets a shot

not sure if it’s worth pointing out some of the nominations are under alternate names, eg:
Neco Z Alenky / Alice (1998)
La PLanete Sauvage / Fantastic Planet

Between this thread’s excellent choices, Matrix 4 rumblings, and No More Heroes 3’s constant references to Takashi Miike, my passion for films is being quickly rekindled.

I know I’m gonna have a lot of films to considerfor the list once this gets underway. Probably a lot more than the Games bracket since I had heard of, watched or played through most of those contenders

In the interest of 100% accuracy, can I change my vote for the richly surreal but maybe a bit too depressing Angel’s Egg (1985) :jp: to a vote for the richly surreal and slightly less depressing The Tenant (1976) :fr:?

aw man i wanna add zeiram, but i can’t remove any of the ones i listed either

They’re generally all highly regarded. I actually liked White and Red way more than Blue! White is the most underrated, but I loved it. A delightfully cynical comedy about exactly what kind of sick person succeeds under capitalism.

I liked all 3 movies!

Blue is more overwhelming than the other two films with its exploration of grief and intense use of color.
The two others are worth watching if you liked the character work but you won’t find a similar atmosphere

great info, thank you both

i watched Blue like over a decade ago and rewatched it a few months ago and all i remembered was the bit with the garbage truck, and i didn’t even really remember that properly. it’s just so wonderfully emotive…
