thatâs nothing new for fromsoftware to be fair
Yeah only Demonâs and DkS1 maintain strict bonfire discipline.
You are playing the game right, and im kinda jealous in the same way i am of folks playing Dark Souls for the first time
Ashina Castle and the way it unfolds into different areas is GOAT video games level design
Woooo guy character of the year 20-whenever
donât ask me to bury my torch for Demonâs aaaaAAARRGH HELP me
jail guy
please⌠HELP ME
reaffirms my belief that games canât ape traditional storytelling and should instead lean into what theyâre really good at
repeating a handful of voice clips until they lodge into playersâ skulls
I briefly forgot that Demonâs Souls has multiple jail guys and the voiceline lodged in my head is from a different one, but anyway you inspired me to make this thread: https://selectbutton.net/t/suspicious-characters-pleading-for-help-thread/
VERY GOOD
VERY GOOD
VERY GOOD
VERY GOOD
So my current barriers are
- Land of a Thousand Guns
- Poison (feat. Guns)
- Genichiro
Not even sure what else at this point, there are so many paths available right now, I canât even remember what Iâve checked and what I havenât.
I have 4 necklaces, 3 attack power, 8 healing gourd charges, and 0 skill or idea what to do next.
I explored the Senpou Temple area as thoroughly as I could, but as far as I can tell, it seems to be a dead end? I got to a big building with a giant buddhist statue of some kind and a guy gave me a letter, but if thereâs anything else I can do there, I couldnât find it.
The gunboss down in the poison pit just shreds me, I havenât the faintest clue what to do there.
Mt. Guns has a copy of the same boss but now with 30 other dudes shooting at me. Cool. Cool.
Please donât tell me one of the cave ghost guys has something I need to proceed
just start from the statue in the other corner then you can pretty much get to him with a couple of silent kills without alerting anyone else and beat his ass in the corner
I mean
Frame-perfect timing has never been my strong suit in games, so Iâm not the best at parrying, and I still canât tell the difference between the different perilous attacks, so I only ever get them right like 1/3 of the time
all that is to say that, even when I do manage to clean the room out and get the drop on gunboss to get that first health bar stripped off, they still end up just turning around and wiping the floor with me
part of my coming to enjoy the game was giving up entirely on distinguishing the different perilous attack warnings (it seems like too much to even want to learn different specific warnings tbh) and just do a sort of stupid sideways jump for all of them
you can also parry really really sloppily and pretty much do fine if you combine it with forcing your advantage
also thatâs more than enough gear to fight genichiro, who is rather easy and satisfying if youâre clicking with the game at all by now
I tried fighting him several times in a row. Just getting my face indented
I managed to get his first bar off, but that was only after using all of my gourd, pellets, and candies
Iâm really just not great at the combat. Something about it feels off
Keep pushing against Genichiro. Thereâs a phenomenon where people find him near impossible and then suddenly the combat system clicks. You will know when this happens, you will be able to get a deathblow on him without being hit more than 2-3 times. I would not call Genichiro easy, itâs closer to a âMatrixâ moment when the games mechanics shift from something you are fighting against to something you are in control over.
yeah, i went almost overnight from banging my head against a wall there to virtually being able to beat him in my sleep. you know youâre âinâ the game then.
my advice is to rethink the purpose of the attack button: itâs less about scoring hits on your opponent and damaging their vitality (thatâs a convenient side-effect) than it is about interrupting their attacks, and maintaining whatever damage youâve been able to deal to their posture. once youâve ingrained that as your continuous goal you get into a feedback loop and feel yourself exponentially accelerating toward the deathblow.
Just beat Sword Saint Isshin⌠for the first time hehe. i never actually got him on my first playthrough! I got stuck on his sword phase, started getting too frustrated and wasnât in a good headspace to play a stressful game so i shelved it
Spent like an hour today trying to fight him and struggling, took a break, came back and stealthed around a bit just to zen out, and then beat him in like 3 tries. I loved it, i think heâs a really fun final boss and i was surprised at how naturally it started to click once i got his sword phase down.
Genichiro continues to be too much
I can get past his first phase without dying MOST of the time, and can get to Lightning Mode every 4th attempt or so, but MAN is that âlightning reversalâ technique buggy as hell
you would think âdoes the special attack you need to progress actually WORK?â would be pretty high up on the testing priority list but oh well
Also, Shamisen Lady needs to cool it
