mech piloting game where the only thing the difficulty setting does is that on easy, your operator praises you for every little success, but on hard they admonish you for every mistake
A nonviolent Zombie game. there’s a cure for the zombie disease and you can bring people back, but they’re still attacking you, so how many can you bring back while minimizing casualties?
RPG where the battle mechanic is literally Rock Paper Scissors. I could probably explore that mechanic pretty deeply.
yeah nice

wait fr?
Swords beat Axes due to their superior speed and dexterity. Lances beat Swords due to their superior reach and finesse. Axes beat Lances due to the physical superiority of Axes and the fragility of Lances.
this is the entirety of the dokapon series! most of them are the boardgame rpgs but the GBC and GBA ones are regular rpgs which retains the rock paper scissors battle system also theyre both gorgeous
they do very little with it tho i mean its there because the first game (which was on the … superfamicom and pretends it is the third entry in a series iirc?) is also the first of the dokapon board game rpgs so they want a fast resolution battle system
so in my hypothetical RPG with rock paper scissors mechanics, all npcs have Rock, Paper, and Scissors attacks, and every battle is you choosing rock, paper, or scissors. So you choose what you play with, they choose theirs, and then maths happen. If you have a winning hand, you do damage, if you match with the opponent it’s a draw, and if you lose you take damage. The game is figuring out what their attack patterns are, so certain NPCs have repetitive or easy attacks to figure out and others are more complicated. Then there’s modifiers, or maybe you can’t throw scissors anymore due to a status effect.
cast spells by throwing specific sequence of shapes over consecutive rounds
What if Pop’n Music was instead called Pop’n Socks, and was about socks instead of music?
i’ve also been thinking about making a rock paper scissors game and there’s a good short manga called “ultimate rock paper scissors” which explores lots of different interesting RPS modifiers: mind reading, super reflexes, paying off someone before the match, incredible luck, hypnotism, etc.
there should be modifiers that alter the traditional 3-way mix-up eg rock actually beats paper depending on if like the character is on a certain terrain type but thats moer of a tactical rpg sort of vibe
and its like you can sort of plant those terrain modifiers and they will ‘sprout’ in a certain number of turns like as in the game map is some sort of farm
at last my thread comes to its full fruition

set in a “fantastical” alternate timeline wherein Morse conceived a system of long-distance communication via a network of ear trumpets and primitive megaphones, SAMUEL MORSE’S COMMUNICATION 1845 challenges players to enunciate simple English words and phrases clearly and fluently while also doing so at the top of their lungs.
