best images for makoto lovers! this video is a must-see:
the only reason to play fightman is aesthetic reasons
dreaming of the day rollback netcode comes to aesthetically appealing fighting games through official means
2021 is the year my delusional fantasies of virtua fighter 6 with rollback become a reality
my opinions on street fighter III are so self-polarizing that in the middle of writing a longpost against it I’m feeling the spiteful seedling in my head blossom into warranted praise
it’s such a beautiful, beautiful, awful fighting game
having a critical crisis over
VOTING IS NOW OPEN; IT WILL LAST FOR ONE WEEK
as a side note, i decided to go back and revise my initial ballot. this obviously doesn’t impact anything to do with the poll, it was just for fun. here’s where it stands now (entries are ranked):
Did this get yanked!?
i forgot to add it, thank you for alerting me!!!
i added it, everyone who has voted so far please go back and vote for that one too!
oh god i forgot another one, all of them should be added now
The only one I’m having a hard time with this round is Final Fantasy 6 vs. Portal.
The Orange Box is the only “Black Friday” deal I have ever entered a store to purchase. (My brother and I each picked up a copy.) I bought it for Portal only but I ended up liking Half-Life 2 as well. I’ve still never once installed Team Fortress 2. I’ve used my Steam account ever since, so it’s partly Portal’s fault that I have hundreds of games I will never play.
Final Fantasy 6 was a game I was never going to be able to afford. But I was fortunate to have a friend with a Super Nintendo and all the expensive games whose strict parents took the console away pretty frequently as a punishment for getting a B or whatever. At those times, I was able to borrow the expensive games. That friend is a doctor now.
without portal we wouldn’t have the classic gamer joke “the cake is a lie” and “the friend cube” and honestly these are more culturally significant than anything in FF6
TLOZ is a monumental achievement but since I’m not voting for 3rd strike (yes I nominated it but it’s not as good as cave story) I need to vote for the actual street fighter game that I do believe deserves to be on top
look, anyone who’s doesn’t vote for super turbo is a traitor to the nation and will be made to learn on reaction standing 720s
SF2 and Zelda 1 are both so foundational for my love of the medium. But Zelda hooked me first, and that’s the one I still play through regularly, where as I’m more apt to reach for SFA3, Third Strike, or one of the Vs games over SSF2T these days, so I guess I have to go that route.
For me Zelda 1 is the pinnacle of the series, where as SSF2T is just a really strong entry in a really strong series.
As for everything else:
Dog Days is still one of the most impressively aesthetically designed games ever, but FFT’s battle system was everything I wanted out of games when that hit. I know there’s Tactics Ogre and those anime girl games before and since, but I haven’t been able to bring myself to check those out since FFT’s shadow is so long.
FFVI has the opera scene whereas Portal is just a long form version of that digipen demo.
I’ve told my anime con game boy camera photography service story already. Treasure deserves all the froth it’s gotten, but the guy from atari teenage riot didn’t help launch a whole music genre in ikuraga
I’m from detroit. Rusty walls > blue skies. Silent Hill all the way.
Shiren’s probably super cool and I wish I had more time to devote to that ds version years ago, but I gotta give it to Super Metroid. Those nice fluid jumps over turn based stuff.
I feel like Cave Story propelled a whole generation of small time developers and made the world a much better place, but have you seen how Ryu’s pants billow!?
I think I’m too old for Undertale.
I have to say it is very lovely to finally have something resembling objective confirmation that I am in an aesthetic minority on this forum
good morning, voting ends tomorrow!
