6 players? I take it back, 1830 is great for beginners. do not worry that https://www.tckroleplaying.com/bg/1830/1830_adv_strategies_and_common_mistakes_by_Henning_Kantner.pdf is 30 pages of indecipherable nonsense, that’s for nerds

18USA is the new hotness for 48 hour games
I just wanna WALK ACROSS the game board
18AL is easy too if we wanna do something different before falsedan tries out another wild idea in 1889

this is the problem with stock rounds over multiple days: I forget what I was doing and trash on autopilot
should be making notes again “stop the schemes already”

ITS OVER
@daphaknee was talking about playing 18GA, which is also an intro level 18xx
who’s in for Game 4?
@wourme
I watched that video and looked at the site for a few minutes, so I’m sure I now have a deep understanding of the strategy.
The video talked a lot about how every instruction book that comes with those games is bad. Is there an unofficial one that’s good?
(Let me know which game you choose and I will read the book for that one, even if it’s bad.)
they are all identical, most have a section at the end that say “here’s the bits that are different about this one”. the standardisation is a feature!
the good news is, because they’re all pretty much the same, you can learn from any & then read that section for the game you’re going to play & then look up what “partial capitalisation” or “reverse waterfall auction” or “6+1 trains” are. do not look those up, they are not applicable to most entries in the series
anyway check out Ambie’s video for how to play 1889, she explains all the rules. or TCK’s explanation of the 1830 rules, if you prefer text. once you know the rules, then it’s possible to work out what they mean you should do
I learned by getting too excited and reading every strategy guide I could find in the BGG forums or Blackwater Station (http://18xx.net/) so I could explain how to play it to my gaming group & maybe give gentle guidance of terrible plays
