SB 1500 Jitsuyou Series Vol. 15 - Games You Played Today ~Catalogue of Games of the Thread~

Faxanadu - got to the Tower of Suffer & had to look up how to use save states on the MiSTer. I have the Pendant & wonder what clue I missed for where to go next

my mantra is “Don’t! Have!! NEGATIVE!! THOUGHTS!!!” with a gradual crescendo. usually after hitting the edge of screen transition and immediately bumping into a swordsman before I react

The Incident at Galley House

I’d heard this compared to the rootrees are dead, and other ‘database’ games. I’m a sucker for the genre, and something about it looked compelling.

I think I’ve played through most of it in one sitting? I don’t want to say to much because a small part of the puzzle is interfacing with the database in the first place. I will say the method it uses is really unique and gives juuuust enough wiggle room you can make guesses but is obscure enough that only works if you have most of the information.

There seems like a boatload of optional stuff to uncover with it too, and some intriguingly convoluted character relationships. I’m pretty sure I’m near the end of the story, but in a lot of ways I feel like I’ve only scratched the surface.

If you like combing through timelines and information, it’s fantastic. Just an incredibly clever set of mechanics and solid writing.

Edit: I think this is a remake or remixing of an older game called Type Help? I never played it, but supposedly there are changes and expanded content to this version, but I dunno what all that would be.

Red Dead Redemption II (PS4): just as the treasure hunter promised, his map led me to a second map; i’m now looking for a roughly-square (?) patch of burnt woodland (??), in one corner of which should be the treasure proper:

it’ll have to wait, though- i believe i’ve had all the RDR i can handle for the time being

and i’m still only at 27% or something like that- damn my infinitesimal attention span

Based on what I know it is basically Type Help? fully rebuilt with a budget (the original I believe is more or less a purely text-based database game; Galley House is much more visual and fleshed out) and about a 20% new/expanded story. People seem a bit more split on which version they prefer than I expected, more seem to go with Incident at Galley House but it appears closer than I’d have thought.

I am somewhere in act IV of Message from Deep Space and have managed to not get ultra stuck again. There have been a few bits that made me go “gee that’s awfully convenient” (I do not accept the periodic table itself being a universal constant) but it’s mostly been going well.

I started up The Roottrees are Dead as basically “long distance counch co-op” with my sis (we each have a copy of the game and just get on the phone with each other and look into the same stuff at the same time). This amazingly seems to work fairly well if probably slightly slower, we successfully filled in 9 of the family members tonight and will take another run at it Thursday night hopefully.

PSA that I’ve got a Rimworld playthrough going in this thread and there’s some game discussion happening from time to time in between my torrents of low effort screenshot posts:

there are also some audience participation polls! one of which has to have some votes on it now before I unpause the game

come follow the adventures of the people who live in this piece of shit

I might have jinxed myself. I was starting to struggle a bit near the end of week 18 (I eventually got a solid idea for most of the terms but am still unsure about the most recent one) and right near the start of week 19 (I believe puzzle 281) I’ve been looking at it and I just can’t parse what it wants of me. Taking a break for now and hoping it’ll look better with fresh eyes, or that one of the team members will pipe in with an idea to nudge me in the right direction.

Beat the Fire Temple in Ocarina of Time 3DS. Beat a first run of Star Fox 64 3DS. Some more progress in Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth. Have a Renamon and a Guillmon now.

Wrapped this up and now I’m trying to find all the scenes. I’d be really curious to watch someone else play through it because it retrospect I think there are multiple approaches to get to the ending.

Just a masterful game in every respect. After trying ‘type help’ I sorta see how that one could be a bit more opaque and complicated puzzle, but I prefer some of stuff Galley House does with its interface.

Made me wonder how much stuff was added to the roottrees are dead/how much I would remember about it if I played it again because I’m itching for more of this sort of thing after finishing it.

Made it to the water temple in Ocarina of Time. Will probably need a guide to finish. Renamon at max level, 22. Guillmon at level 19.

Splatoon Raiders is just if they took Salmon Run and made a whole ass game out of it

“that doesn’t seem like it would be enough game to flesh a 60 dollar product out of”

yeah

and yet

they solve the problem by also making it a loot game with the mission structure and pick up/put down playability of a hunting game. ultimately it shares a lot of DNA with the actual Splatoon campaigns, but it’s like they turned down the “platformer” dial and cranked the “shoot things” dial

I feel like the only thing I can knock it for is that there’s not really public multiplayer, you either have a psuedo-quick match thing where you call for help for a specific raid or help someone calling for help. otherwise every lobby is behind keywords or friends. Nintendo things.

I am currently playing through this and if you have only played the free version beforehand, the main difference in the paid version is that they added a second campaign and replaced all the previous AI art with handmade professional stuff (they are very apologetic about said AI art BTW).

Finished my second co-op session with my sis in it, up to 15 out of 50 names correctly filled out on the family tree. We ran into a bit of a dead end at the end of our time but we found one decent lead right before we had to quit.

sraëka’s RPGM2k experiments are so delightful and inspirational to me, an occasional amateur RPG Maker “developer” since young times. love to see those 2k RTP graphics.. many fond memories…

I tried playing Breath of Fire IV on steam but the PC version is a lot of garbage. Is it worth it tracking down an iso for that gorgeous pixel art?
