yes
Where do people start w that now?
I love it but personally cannot stand the High Fivers picky bullshit.
Have finally finished this and love the fact that the final run is just five remixes in a row.
The minigames and multiplayer has so much more legs in this. We beat Volleyballish 3 last night and it was the best
i think duckstation is still the emulator to use
I got the 0/0/0! It’s mostly thorough investigation of mysterious walls and perfect routing, except for one single puzzle that borders on La Mulana levels of obscurity. If you need an oblique hint for that one: pay special attention to the hint someone mutters in their sleep.
Yeah! 2 player Tennis Quest 3 was so wonderful and intense.
The multiplayer difficulty is too high overall though! My 11 year old niece could play nearly nothing but Cake Time + the memory game even on the lowest difficulty. I’m glad the wii ad golf grandma days are over but come on
Yeah the onion plucking and Ninja arrows are absurdly unforgiving. Even perfecting single player stages isn’t quite as hard. I ain’t trilling on these tiny friggin joycon buttons
Marvel Tōkon open beta:
It’s cool because it makes fighting game things much easier to do. Everyone’s special moves use the same inputs, for instance, so you don’t have to look up a guide to get started with a new character.
It also sucks because it makes fighting game things much easier to do. Anyone can do a longish combo into a cinematic super duper move by mashing the same button. I find that stuff boring and repetitive even when you have to earn it.
Combos were a mistake.
I genuinely think Supers were a mistake but yeah
games were a mistake
I’m not a fight game expert, but while I was playing the MKX and MK11 storymodes this past week I kept thinking these flashy cutscenes that interrupt all gameplay for like 5-10 seconds at a time seemed both like a cheap catch-up mechanic and way too disruptive to really be a good inclusion. Like, they kind of suck! And you have to watch them in full, and they never change either.
every time this kind of repetitive time wasting control removing animation happens over and over in games I think to myself ‘ugh, even DOT HACK let you turn this shit off’
i like the space combos/supers open up for the player in terms of gestural-rhythmic variation and improvisation and as a generative design space in terms of art/sound/character/etc.
I suspect the bigger issue with those games is that Arksys & Netherrealm both have kind of always valued quick maximalist visual spectacle and make decisions within that design space to that end.
Well my playthrough of The Message from Deep Space sorta crashed into a wall as I’m just lost and hard stuck around puzzle 321 (really looking back I should be at 318 as I don’t even have the foggiest grasp of what these last two terms are about). My earlier worries about how much math class stuff I remembered was slightly misplaced as english/writing was generally my weakest subject and I could barely diagram a sentence when I had classes about it daily, now I’m being given transmissions which are basically going “this term is the type of speech that goes with the subject noun and verb but not an object noun and verb” and I have no earthly idea, my teacher let me take the same adverb quiz multiple times and I never got higher than 40.
So since I can’t really play that any more at the moment I picked up Eigengrau, which is a shmup built out of a ton of small gimmicky stages and your sorta twin-stick shooter attacks. I played for 45 minutes, got tired and realized I was not even halfway through, died and was told to go back to the start. I was baffled that someone would make a 2 hour long shmup campaign you gotta beat in one go, thankfully when I mentioned this to someone they let me know that the practice-seeming “do you want to play this specific stage” bit gives you the option to continue forward at the end rather than repeat it so I’ll probably stick with it long enough to at least see everything. I do think this means a 1CC will be beyond me as A) I’m not that good but more importantly B) I no longer have the focus to play a shmup for two straight hours.
muttering “poinpy” to myself
So turns out my initial idea was right but I think I made a slight formatting mistake when entering it, which lead me to think it was wrong and hence trying all sorts of other ideas that obviously were not correct. Once I found that out forward progress was once again restored.
I just hit a stumper at 286. The fact that it’s unclear what they’re asking for makes me worry one of my words is off, but I’m pretty sure I understand everything here so I just gotta figure what the heck the answer actually wants. No one’s chiming in like they did before which makes me worry that they think this one is supposed to be easy.
Never mind, immediately after saying that I re-read the text and realized I’d been playing myself all along. Hooray for overthinking!
I beat Frozen Fruits! I first played this as a kid soon after it came out, so I guess it took me 25 years. The level I was stuck on turned out to be almost the very last, and all the ones after it are easier. (It was the wooden block maze where you have to carve paths around the wooden skulls.)
“Cool.”
