Romancing SaGa 2 / general kawazu worship thread

Incredible reward for beating Asellus’ scenario. I think she’s my favourite so far story and personality-wise, even though the entire scenario is an extended sequence of learning that mystics are a really huge hassle to set up “properly”. Thankfully Time Lord is available, and an incredibly helpful support character if you get things like Assist on him and choose to do the overdrive/snake oil trick.

The ending I got for her didn’t have any fancy image like this

Instead what I got was after overthrowing Orlouge she took his place and became and even more corrupt despot. Then it just cuts to a black screen

Yeah Asellus has 3 endings!

I had a great time yesterday with my pals T260G, Leonard, ZEKE, Engineer Car and of course PzkwV

T260g with 5 mechs is like an entirely different game. No need to fight random battles for the most part because mechs don’t level up.
Throwing rockets that refill after every battle, using viruses against enemy mechs, downloading programs from them, going inside the matrix, exploring dungeons filled with laser weapons and secret motherboards

I did this one yesterday too, this was the hardest final boss for me so far but I wasn’t using a full team of mechs (I didn’t find PzkwV at all)

Aside from one really bad moment of quest scripting, T260G was certainly the most unique of the routes. I also did a full 5 mech party.

I am still doing Red’s quest. I am trying to use a party composed of Red, Fuse, Emilie, Lute, in addition to Cotton. I am not sure if I am doing the right thing, but my idea was to fortify those characters, since they will be protagonists of their own stories later on.

I also notice that the two monsters (Cotton and Thunder) are really strong and having them in the party makes a lot of difference.

I started a Fuse run last night, and it definitely seems like you’re supposed to do those as New Game +, straight off the bat it’s thrown me into a midgame boss battle that seems unwinnable even after gathering a whole team and grinding for ages

Playing more or less the same board layout in different routes almost feels like a casual equivalent of speedrun routing - get Light magic after you recruit X, save this quest for later to fight the superboss etc - T260G was the first one where I really felt the benefit of multiple layers of game knowledge since I ended up with a nearly invincible all-mec party that just smoked everything in its path. There are mec minibosses later on that let you download programs that automatically heal you each turn, so the final boss for me ended up being T260G taking 30 damage from an attack and healing back 37 each turn.

As Tuxedo said Asellus has 3 endings - they’re based on whether you use Mystic powers as Asellus, as well as whether you rescue Gina at the end. I assumed they’d all have nice CG, it’s a shame to hear that’s not the case.

There is a locked door at the bottom of the Bio Research Lab. Is it possible to unlock it in Red’s story?

Also, how do other stories interact? For example: I beat Sei (the death lord) in Red’s quest, will I have to do the same in other stories?

The way to unlock that door is in the same branch of the Lab, through the door in the southeast corner of that big garden in the basement.

Each scenario has completely independent progress, so if you wanted to get the reward from Sei’s sidequest on another character, you’d have to do it again. Same goes for any other kind of ‘world state’ thing like magic school gifts or items in dungeons.

I’ve been wondering how to approach Fuse’s files to get maximum enjoyment for a while

Going :

  • NG Asellus → NG+ Fuse+Asellus
  • NG Riki → NG+ Fuse+Riki
    Etc

seems like the obvious choice, but each time you’d end up with a pathetically weak 200 HP Fuse you’d have to re-train from the start, and I refuse to do that 7 more times

Also you can’t even choose which file Fuse picks so it would actually go :

  • NG T260G → NG+ Fuse+… Game chose Asellus. Soft reset
  • NG T250G → NG+ Fuse+… Game chose Red. Soft reset

Restarting like you’re farming a rare loot drop from an unique boss except you’re literally just choosing a new game file until the stars align

I think I’m going to try doing NG Fuse → NG+ Fuse → NG+ Fuse → NG+ Fuse etc to keep my Fuse crew through all the files in whatever order the game wants, but this doesn’t seem perfect either

This is all very ridiculous and on-brand

I haven’t messed with NG+ yet - when you carry over skills and stat gains, is that per-character? …also are T260 and T260G counted as separate characters?

Wiped on Genocide Heart and I think I am done with this stupid game, so much of this sucks ass, I dunno if I’d describe this t260g end game as a slog but it is very not good, been sitting here not looking at the screen, holding down A waiting for all these super easy mandatory fights to end, I shoulda tapped out after the floor tile puzzle seemingly no one knows the true solution to (unless the actual solution is “walk around randomly and mash,” which may be the case), play one route of this game and you’ve played enough, that’s my verdict on Saga Frontier

The only good things about these games are sparking and terse NPC dialogue! THAT’S IT, THAT’S THE BOTTOM LINE!!!

I mean, I think that worked for me :man_shrugging:

Yeah that’s how I got past the second platform too. It doesn’t seem like anyone knows an actual solution to it?? If there is one I’d love to know it, I even tried watching Lets Plays to cheat and they were all fumbling around for like half an hour. It was pretty hilarious.
