Retroid Pocket 2: The Thread

If anyone tests out N64 on their RP2, lemme know how it goes. That is, perhaps foolishly, one of the main reasons I got this.

all the n64 stuff i’ve tested (not much) has seemed solid, and that’s without trying different profiles or anything.

do the various emulators on this have screenshot options?

Some do. How easy it is to fish them off of it, I dunno.

Actually, as long as you can find where they store them, I guess you could always
post them directly online with it. Android and all.

retroarch definitely does

what Retroidon’t

Bouncing between this and my PocketGo V2 (which is basically the same thing as an RG350, just, uh, less nice), and
it’s a toss-up, folks.

I’d almost give it to the PocketGo if the NGPC emulator didn’t make you choose between “awkwardly stretched out image using the full screen” or “correct aspect ratio, at the exact resolution, the size of a stamp.” A weird nitpick, but, c’mon!

The Retroid, for now, seems to both be 1) cheaper (at least, than the RG350 - PocketGo V2 runs about $80 on Amazon) and 2) more capable, with the caveat that you gotta jump a lotta hoops to get it working just right.

Now, given most of those hoops are 1) knowing your way around Android and 2) Retroarch, then, OK! It’s probably fine!

I just dunno. It feels a lot quicker to just jump in with the PocketGo than the Retroid. Maybe a launcher would make that feel better? Probably!

Plus there’s that wild, inexplicable wallpaper choice of a painting of Socrates looking directly at someone’s boobs on the RG350/PGV2. Count that as a plus or minus according to taste.

Oh! In testing PSOne games between the two, I’ve got, uh, bad luck so far on both, with the same games (DOA and Bloody Roar 2), but managed to completely forget that the PocketGo/RG family of handhelds have rumble? So, uh, if you love ya some rumble, there ya go.

(The analog stick on the PocketGo V2 is unusable dogshit. If y’all think the right stick on the Retroid is bad, it
really isn’t. By all accounts the RG family use what feels like Switch Joycon analog sticks
hopefully without the drift.)

Okay, some good news! Turns out the key to getting Playstation games to run full speed is to actually not use the BIOS, and set Retroarch to use HLE instead.

All the games that ran choppy, or with bad audio, are now working fine.

So, hey! That’s one issue solved!

I have gone through the trouble of getting a refund on my order, and placing a new order. My expectations for the device have been checked a bit, but it still sounds like a nice thing to have which can reliably play lots of old nintendo platforms, PS1, and some other consoles with varying success and tweaks
which is pretty awesome all things considered?

It crashed in the standalone flycast app.

El oh el Psyvariar2 (DC) works in retroarch with only slight flame drops.

30 minutes in is the actual footage. Jesus the PSP footage is painful. Actually all of this is Retroid OS footage which you really should not trust.

Except Ridge Racer and GoldenEye, all that looked fine. Why not trust the footage?

Something about the Retroid d-pad makes it harder for me to walljump in Metroid Fusion compared to on the PSP Go.

J’accuse! ZĂ©ro de conduite!

I like the Retroid so far but whenever I hold it there is the nagging feeling that I should have just hacked my Vita

But, I tell myself, the extra shoulder triggers are pretty comfy and great. I may never play a game that benefits meaningfully from them. And my Vita is not Pepto Bismol pink, a genuine failing.

I’ll admit I saw the RR footage was the same I had experienced then skipped around and posted the video.

The My main complaint with retroid OS is how hard it is to change controls. I prefer Retroarch to it easily.

When I have 30 minutes alone and willing (lol never) i do plan to make one of these shakey cam terrible videos with a bunch of my own crankety thoughts.

Why is Toxic Crusaders using the music from Spy Vs Spy?

Also why is every aspect ratio wrong?
