or a hacked Vita or hacked Switch, even better experiences
Been debating whether to play Chrono Cross on my Vita1k or on the RP2.
As I have been debating this for over a year the answer is check twitter for two hours and fall asleepZ
Chrono Cross is a great game to fall asleep to
Real talk, when weâre driving late and trying to make the kids sleep the first thing I put on is the Chrono Cross OST
Is he obviously a fucking shill for this thing? Yes
Having used an Anbernic product the buttons on this thing suck ass.
But it can run Dreamcast, Conkers Bad Fur Day, and Saturn at full speed?
I do not recommend this the buttons again are horrible garbage and using the base RP2 was only a headache. But this does make me excited by Spring maybe and Summer definitely weâre gonna have something small from Ambernic that does these things and that is extremely exciting.
Ended up giving mine away.
I never said in this thread but I used my RG351v for approximately 30 seconds before going âthe Retroid Pocket 2 is absolute trash and I am not using it again.â
I mean having watched that latest video it seems like they went to some lengths to improve the buttons?
Idk Iâm not super invested in defending this thing, but itâs tantalizingly close to what I would want. The UI especially seems very good for someone like me whoâd have zero patience for doing more setup then âload some ROMsâ
i was more than happy with the feel of the RP2, the main reason i stopped using it was the android interface. having a touch screen now is a huge pro. not going to jump on this one as quickly, but very interested to see some real world usage of it.
hell yeah i have been waiting for a $100 handheld to play saturn rpgs in bed. Gonna keep my eye on this one and hope the buttons actually are better. I wonder how much it costs to ship to Japan?
Thought I was the only Japan poster at this point but around August 2020 it was maybe 20 bucks?
The anbernic is only more complicated than that if you use the more esoteric emulators (like the doom source port). For PSX, N64, SNES, Genesis, ETC, itâs as easy as dropping roms into folders.
At least that was my memory before I took the ten minutes to replace the default os? That was pretty straightforward with an SD card reader.
Yeah found 351elec took care of most things. If you just want to play console games on a beautiful handheld.
But now it is wait for the small form factor next Ambernic. They got a big switch style thing coming that doesnât interest me that much.
i pre-ordered one and it was $12 for 4px shipping to chiba!
mine should be here this week. i hope it plays elevator action returns good
Oops. Watching it beofre ffalling alseep and scanning lol.
success. this runs at like 25 fps on my rg351
feels good in the hands, controls feel as good as my anbernic (except the right slider kinda sucks). will try more taxing games later. minecraft ran well though lol
quite a bit of light bleed on the screen unfortunately. supposedly might be because of overtight screws, will see if I can fix it.
If anyone is still curious, they shipped me a replacement screen rather quickly to fix the light bleed issue I had. Looks great now! Newer ones have shipped without the light bleed issue as far as I have seen
Among the more advanced systems, everything Iâve tried on Dreamcast worked without issue or any real tweaking. N64 needed a custom profile for the system, and there are some minor graphical bugs in some games but they run and play well. Saturn is a bit more spotty but most stuff works great (Nights, Panzer Dragoon) with some unfortunate exceptions (Burning Rangers too slow, Dynamite Deka doesnât have sound effects?).
PSX is great of course and can upscale 3D games if you want. I havenât had any issues with arcade emulation running games youâd reasonably expect to run. There are a handful of Android games that are nice to play on it too. I donât know why but itâs kind of satisfying to have such a small handheld play a bit of Minecraft.
Gripes: the face buttons and d-pad are not quite as nice as Anbernic devices. Android has its upsides but the simplicity of the front-ends available on the RG351 is a definite appeal. All the Android front-ends Iâve tried lack something or another. Really wish it had R3/L3 if even just for some extra hotkeys in emulators. And of course, the right slider still sucks.
anyway it is just crazy worth it for the price, saw some people are even paying double on ebay because they donât want to wait a month to get it lol
Thinking about it with the touch screen would be really nice if you could set a Left Side screen touch as screenshot in Retroarch.
this company has announced a clamshell which may be the hook finally baited for me
i know there was some buyerâs remorse around the rp2 here but a few hardware generations later and solid community aftermarket support makes it look pretty appealing i think (the guts of this are largely the same as the rp3+)
i greatly enjoy the (now sold through) tiny one-handed jrpg machine that is the miyoo mini and am waiting for itâs new wifi capable big sister in the mail
this device category is fun, and while many situations may be better served by a homebrew capable 3ds or vita, its hard to beat the community-solved brain-off capability of these as drag-n-drop portable everything-machines
as impulse purchases go, certainly more useful and less costly than panicâs perpetually-on-preorder whimsical comfygame ewaste device
