RESIDENT EVILS....

I got the speed demon trophy with a final time of 3:34:56. That was on casual with an infinite ammo rocket launcher.

Insanity mode is pretty fun even with infinite ammo. Without infinite ammo it would be an exercise in running past as many zombies as possible and scraping through boss encounters by the skin of your teeth (or when the adaptive difficulty takes pity on you, seems like it gives you two real attempts then just lets you win).

I think I have done the first half of the final puzzle correctly. I had the doll in my inventory so it should be in the item box on my next playthrough. The rest of it pretty straightforward from there. I just looked up how to do it. There was no way I was going to figure it out on my own but maybe that was the point of it. Like maybe they were trying to create some kind of community challenge for everyone.

I also lack one last raccoon and I don’t know where it is. Ditto for the two documents I never found. Besides completionism I want to get the raccoons for that extra level of gun upgrades because I think that would make a non-infinite ammo run on insanity mode more doable.

So I will probably do one more run for the puzzle and the items/trophies then attempt a legit playthrough of insanity mode.

There is a spring sale on PS5 so I got REmake, 0 remake and 6 ps4 for $5 each. Now I just need 2/3remake and I’ll have all the main games on one console.

I started playing REmake and while I’m glad to be able to play this again and so cheaply I think it looks pretty awful compared to the GameCube version. Textures look muddier and lower res, and everything is too bright even after messing with the brightness settings. Game looks washed out in some screens. Very disappointing, I probably should have looked into it more before buying but oh well. I even turned off enhanced pssr and the toggle that enhances PS4 games and it just looked worse lol.

The original PS1 version is also on psplus and that looks and runs like you would expect it to so that’s always an option I guess but they added some story stuff to REmake that they had cut from the original that fleshes out the backstory a lot more. I guess you don’t really need those extra notes if you already know what they are.

But dang, a GameCube with a CRT is really the best way to play the game and that sucks because my GameCube stopped working a long time ago and I haven’t turned on the one CRT I still have in ages either.

Anyway this ign video that came out today was really good wish the game looked like that on ps5.

I know this is an insane thing to ask, but if they’re actually going to make another remake of RE1, then I hope they include the robot version of the game as an extra mode.

If anyone made the mistake of making me scenario writer, it would have an immobilized Chris in a combat wheelchair and the entire game would basically play like the Heisenberg battle from Village. The horror mechanics would come from the fact that the wheelchair would have degradation mechanics and need to be charged periodically, which also implies keeping generators running. 100,000 times more depressing old man crawling long distances on the floor in pain than Metal Gear Solid 4

The GOG remasters of the original trilogy are now on Steam.

i’m watching a playthrough of re5 for some reason and i really like the part in the lost in nightmares dlc where you find a piano in the mansion and press X to ACTIVATE and chris goes ā€œjill!ā€ and she goes ā€œok!ā€ and sprints over in her tactical gear to instantly begin playing a note perfect rendition of the moonlight sonata. which slowly causes a gate to open that you can go through to collect centaur emblem.
there’s no way the stilted mechanical barks of the partner characters in this game werent responsible for the whole conception of the pawns in dragons dogma, right

I’ve been playing RE5 again and my dedicated partner is really good at using the talk command to congratulate me whenever I get a headshot. It’s a feature I miss going back to a game like nightreign

It’s very risk reward. You have a small window to congratulate someone after they get a headshot, but if you mistime it you say the very rude sounding ā€œc’monā€ instead

found out for the first time today about D.I.J. in Code Veronica

the events of the game from their perspective is the obvious path for any proverbial Actually Creatively Worthwhile remake of CV

One of my favorite bits from the gamefaqs Resident Evil plot summary is when the author, explaining how the Diary of D.I.J. is canon, responds to the question ā€œBut how is it the same rat when the one who runs under the shutter is brown, and the one in the locker is white?ā€ by explaining that ā€œHe’s a very smart rat.ā€

that discrepancy is exactly the kind of open-ended question a remake should explore

I also love the idea that D.I.J. is by far the most successful & extraordinary Umbrella experiment

Does Sheva ā€œI can’t right now!ā€ Alomar feature at all in the ensuing canon of RE since 5..?

I think she helps Pierce find Chris in RE6, in some off-screen way.

no because after that is when they injected the poison that is misogyny into resident evil and made sure all the cool women were never allowed to be that cool again. sheva happens to be a person of color which also ensures she is forever a background character despite being chris’ new partner he trusts as much as jill valentine

love thinking about how they transferred all of carlos’ character flaws into jill in the re3 remake while he acts like original re3 jill, thus flipping the dynamic completely in the opposite direction, and also making it more overt that they like each other teehee to ensure it is indistinguishable from every other cool guy and damsel in distress story. don’t even get me started on how the changes with nemesis and brad at the beginning make jill look pathetically weak for no good reason compared to her bad fucking ass introduction of combat rolling out of an exploding building in the ps1 game

I knew I still rated it high for a reason but I kind of forgot a lot about it and I completely forgot they did not tell you when keys were no longer useful in 7 and they did not do the thing where rooms on the map go from red to blue once you pick up everything in them, they’ve definitely gone backwards in these areas in future games. also that weird fmv footage out the car window in the beginning before you look down to shift into park, then look back up and it’s game footage, that’s great. the baker house is such a great location. also in the garage you have to manually reverse and steer and drive over jack, that’s a good horror story moment to have in a game with an unstoppable antagonist and it just makes it even more baffling how re3 also has something like that just more on rails like everything in re3 for some reason. at least the hospital basement/lab in 9 seemed like it was trying to make up for no more dead factory in 3.
