Val Kilmer as Leon S. Kennedy, you say?
Petition to replace all of Leonās dialogue with āwhereās the girlā
Gary Buseyās character from Lethal Weapon is a great basis for Krauser while Saddler is blatantly wearing Ralph Fiennesās face
Dolph Lundgren is the only possible Krauser, especially after Universal Soldier
I have finished the original game a million times, and though Iām just a chapter into the game, I can already tell one of greatest points of friction Iāll face playing this remake will be learning when to put down almost two decades of ingrained knowledge about where things are and treasure/pesetas optimization.
Yeah it rules
Yeah just slightly unfamiliar enough. Itās really a prime situation to spring something like the bit in the first REmake where the glass in the dog hallway just fractures as you move through it for the first time, when youāre expecting the dogs to come jumping through like they do in the PS1 version. I havenāt experience RE4make do anything like that yet, and I will be disappointed if they donāt.
this game will drive mad with trying to min/max treasure/gem allocation
as best as I can tell the optimal thing is to put your priciest gems in your priciest treasures, with the caveat that you get a slightly greater bonus for having one of each color than all the same, most valuable color. someone please correct me if Iām wrong lol.
Thereās a guide if you press Square/Equivalent on that menu screen but going through this again in Professional itās usually guaranteed that you will have enough gems by the end of the next chapter (or midway/thereabouts) for insert-able treasures from the earliest point of finding one
right, but the guide doesnāt tell you the actual amount the bonuses grant. it scales based on the value of the base treasure, so the exact same set of stones will give you a higher bonus in a pricier treasure than a cheaper one.
The bonus multiplier is in the right-hand column but it does indeed depend on the color/value of the treasure itself, although I would aim for single/duo combos where possible
Still getting the hang of the controls in this one and the combat mechanics, but the nimbleness I already have with a mouse makes me think that this game must be a really different experience with a controller!
It does kind of suck to watch this remake do the same jokes and try on the same tricks but with like negative flair or style. Itās a fun game to play but hearing this Leon say the exact old lines just kind of bums me out.
Just done the lake and beginning to enjoy this a bit more. Some small new areas a bit more built for the added mechanics and getting the Red9 have helped.
Although selling a gun seems to sell all the held ammo as well. And upgrading capacity doesnāt seem to reload guns anymore either.
Everythingās heavier, isnāt it? I appreciate the expanded horror palette but I need to see if they can get any juice out of it, it clearly weakens the original tone.
This is the first thing Iām ever going to use a hideous reshade mod on. I just need that burnt '70s 16mm color tone
The absence of upgrade-to-reload is a bummer but you can always exploit the merchant by buying and repurchasing magnums for good base damage in tight spots
Iām more bothered by the comparative scarcity of small resources throughout the game generally, which is fine for handgun rounds but bad news for shotguns/magnums
The TMP has really poor precision this time around while the bolt rifle is too weak point-focused to be used as a precise shotgun alternative. The riot gun is arguably Best in Show for defense, ammo economy (when you can make some) and damage output/fire rate, and a weapon that I totally overlooked in the original (because I would always keep the pump action until the striker became available)
lots of cool things going on here, but most notably: holy shit you can skip the opening village fight by shooting the church bell in the distance, causing all the ganados to leave immediately.
this game is so fucking funny
like the original, the village is heads and tails better than the rest of the game. itās so fucking inspired and good. the segment where you take the boat around for a few chapters is just fucking sublime. imagine a whole game like that, motorboat swamp waterway wind waker, but also a horror game. how cool would that be?
that said I quite enjoyed the rest, too. The castle is interesting because itās so much better paced than the original, and is tighter in pretty much all the ways I wanted it to be, but I feel like the atmosphere is overall a downgrade from the original. some cool aesthetic choices though and I love how they did the novistadors. they look like cronenbergās the fly. it rules.
the island is like, fine. I really like how they did the regenerators, and that sequence is maybe the closest the game comes to actual horror (the segment where you play as ashley came close too). itās funny though because the first krauser fight is excellent compared to the silly extended QTE sequence in the original. but then the second krauser fight is like way too rigidly scripted and predictable compared to how the original plays out. the last phase of it is still really good though.
the helicopter warzone section is somehow both more obnoxiously bombastic but infinitely more tolerable than the original. I think the island is like, overall an upgrade from the original but thatās such a low bar. itās fine, I donāt really know what better they could have done with it.
honestly pound for pound this game is just better than original. and it still feels exactly like RE4 should. I think thatās pretty impressive. and the combat is so fucking good. the parry system is this little sekiro-light accent that just really fucking sings and ties together all the other little combat tweaks. itās actually fairly viable to one-on-one enemies with the knife in this game, and on professional Iāve found myself having to do that multiple times by now. itās exhilarating. and I love how rate of fire is a dramatically more important stat in this game, because getting headshot melee combos isnāt ever guaranteed, so the sooner you can get more headshots in the sooner you can get them staggered. I think thatās so smart!
where did this come from⦠what???
