I lack any ability to describe art techniques, but something about the lighting or coloring on this irked me so much that I couldn’t stop staring at it. The two guys on the left despite being in the same art style feel like they are from two different images and I want to yell at it.
No, it’s literalizing ‘picture elements’ – characters are an array of colored points and a square-pixel character is rendered as a collection of polygons (two triangles for each pixel, of course!), going the long way around to get back to a 2d drawing
makes for some very math-focused art; all images were designed around square pixels but had to be constantly checked against their hex and triangular interpretations. a monastic constraint
What almost no one here knows its that my real name is Stefan (I went with Raphael for a while though I’m back to using Stefan again), so I looked at this game’s Steam page with much interest just now.
It’s actually for the baby’s whole life and I almost went with this screenshot instead as I find it creepy as hell. Having to decide which faceless being I find cutest bothered me in the back of my brain for some reason I can’t quite put my finger on.
i might have talked on this forum about a fake game i dreamed about years ago called MEGABLOOD (i mentioned it on the insert credit podcast i was on recently) but this shot looks an awful lot what that game in my dream looked like.
yeah. it is unsettling whenever that kind of thing happens. it happens to me enough where i’ve resolved that it’s not really something i can control anyway so i try not to think about it. also this image is only like 60-70% like my dream so there isn’t a full uncanny valley thing going on there.
