Haha I played that game before because I spend way more hours playing porn games than regular ones. When I played it there was a big dick skill, which I obviously picked, and it didn’t change anything about the images in the game. I’m guessing this won’t either. I mean that’s not necessarily a bad thing because porn games work a lot with making numbers and variables and abstract concepts sexy, because those are way easier and cheaper “content” to produce than hand-drawn images with a hundred variations or whatever graphics the game is using
Love and Sex: Second Base is not one of the really terrible porn games. It’s not one of the best ones either. Just in case anyone was wondering haha
Hey, is there any chance you could write a post/thread about the state of the art in videogame pornographics? It’s an area of games i don’t know much about. Especially with the introduction of new technology (VR, haptics?), i wonder how much pornography is pioneering spaces games will end up in. But also it’d be interesting to see an overview of the industry side, top studios, best games, etc.
Now i wrote all that it sounds like something you should get paid for, or that a magazine could devote a whole issue to, so um, just ignore this probably
(also anything graphic probably needs to be in a designated lava ringed bedroom zone)
I’ve actually been asked this before and from what I know I am the only one on sb who really is into porn games that much, so I guess I am now the resident expert on them. To really be able to claim that title though I’d indeed have to make a post/thread like the one you’re asking for. I’ve been kinda squirming my way around that for a long time now and maybe it’s time for me to stop doing that and get to work. I’ve been writing on a script for a YouTube video on porn game design, too, so I’m already going in that direction anyway.
I’ll still have to decide if I want to put in the work because if I do it I’m going to do it well. And yeah, I wouldn’t post any pornographic images at all, not even in a NSFW thread.
Not to get too much into it but this is already interesting because I don’t think that’s how it works with porn videogames (at least at the moment), even though it’s the way it works with porn movies. The porn movie industry is always several steps ahead of Hollywood when it comes to utilizing new technology. Porn was online before the big blockbusters were, porn adopted stuff like 60fps earlier and now it’s at the forefront of VR content.
Porn videogames aren’t really like that!
Part of that is conceptual; what makes a good porn game is that it’s good pornography first and a videogame only second. The game layer means that the pornographic content is less easily accessible. Why click through a bunch of menus or JRPG-style random battles to look at porn when you can just hit play on pornhub and have access immediately? So the game layer is initially an obstacle. That hindrance is actually the big strength of porn games though and what makes them so cool in my eyes - that’s the whole potential right there. To explain what I mean by that would take me longer than I have time for right now though.
The other part is the infrastructure of the industry because big money hasn’t discovered porn games yet and basically everything is indie. Now, indie generally means innovation for regular videogames. Yet in the porn sector it means retreading paths already established by regular videogames, just on a smaller scale.
Just to cover my ass here: I can argue that it’s the other way around, too. However, that then leads to a string of arguments that I’m still brain-powering my way through and I think that that’s probably the key to making The Game Of My Dreams. That’s just way too exhausting a path to follow right now, so that’s why I went with what I initially said
FWIW based on the Steam porn games I stumble across doing this the quality level is rather low. I’d say most of it is just shovelware-level with the most well received being various visual novels. There has been a few VR games I’ve seen but they seem to be almost universally very rough both in terms of mechanics and visuals, I don’t think there has been a single one where I went “that’s the least bit hot”.
Yeah, Steam is a terrible place to look for porn games if you’re interested in playing them. Selling them, sure, no better place! The main way porn games are distributed right now is patreon and increasingly subscribestar, because patreon’s terms of service and just general business practices are getting worse
There are only too many games because we at SB just aren’t committed enough to each play ten or so newly released games each day, if we just did that collectively we could keep up with the flood.
