best version of ff2?

Fantasian Neo Dimension

i asked this recently. went with the ps1 chronicles version. load times were slow. so was navigation. but i guess it is the best vanilla style experience you can get from an official release, though it is a remake.

yeah i remember disliking the load times / kinda zoomed out look when the ps1 origins thing first launched, kinda leaning towards wsc or gba when i get round to it

I always wondered if you can fix loading times in the Square SNES PS1 ports w/ emulation or is there some kind of unskippable buffering?

i can test this later and report back. i suspect maxing out the CD speed options would make a significant difference. prooooooobably still gonna be slower than SNES in a direct comparison, i have to imagine… but maybe more tolerable

The Pixel Remaster was really pleasant when I played through it, and super snappy, but almost too easy, which is not a normal ff2 issue.

I love the look of the GBA ports. Playing FFV that way rn and played FF1 recently too. I’d probably go for that version if I were to play FF2 again, though that ver might have some issues I don’t know about.

I only ever played WSC and my understanding is that the GBA and PS1 versions are super similar with the first two

In DuckStation I hold the emulator’s turbo key to skip past stuff in any game.

i did this too. still, just navigating between equipment and spell menus was slow enough to want to speed it up. so that’s a lot of speeding up to do, in the case of ff2.

I love turbo keys too! But it kills the audio, so…

I’m looking at getting a foot pedal for my computer, to use with push-to-talk on voice while I’m using a gamepad or otherwise in the Gamer Zone:tm:.

I’m actually considering getting a 3-pedal thing, so I can use it for racing games, flight sim games, what have you. To use Descent as a recent example, it would be cool to be able to spiral left or right using such a thing, since that command doesn’t fit onto the gamepad I have.

Anyone have any suggestions? @hellojed, with the amount of racing games you play, I have to imagine you’ve looked into this at some point.

the problem is that good racing pedals are very asymmetrical in terms of resistance to simulate throttle/clutch/brake so I don’t think you could satisfactorily get one that does double duty and just lets you map regular stream deck functions like that

It might work. Most wheel setups have three or two pedals. Mine is an old logitec unit and has two pedals with similar resistance in both, could useful for yaw. I’m 99% certain flight sims can be controlled the same way.

actually that image makes me think that if you want to get something you can repurpose you should probably get some MIDI sustain pedals instead and a USB adapter for them?
