I played this game for about 30 minutes while exploring the history of 3d platformers and it was honestly impressive how much they figured out how to do the right way before there were any established design patterns for 3d games at all
whatās a good SaGa if iāve never actually played any of these beforeā¦ leaning towards SaGa Frontier as the coolest looking
saga frontier is the first one i really got into and the only one i actually played through so iād vote for it to be the best starting point
azuretimelore
seconding SaGa Frontier, starting with Redās scenario is what finally made the series click for me
Minstrel Song would probably be my second choice
frontier, minstrel song, romasaga 3 all good choices
Yeah, I was going to say Minstrel Song. Frontier, Minstrel Strong, and Romancing SaGa 3 I think are common, accessible entry points. While they share a design ethos, SaGa games can be fairly different from each other though so you may like one and hate another.
Edit: This is an excuse to post Minstrel Songās opening.
Edit 2: Dang, I never noticed how good that dancing animation at 1:18 is. I should probably also say, despite me saying Minstrel Song is a good starting point, every time Iāve played that game my entire experience has been walking out of the first town, going into the same cave nearby, and dying to a giant crab. I donāt know why I do it. Still have fond memories of the game though.
Definitely SaGa Frontier 1 first
real quick question: what games that came out for both dos and amiga were better on amiga
I think in general, games had better sound and colors on the Amiga up until the early nineties. Neuromancer comes to mind.
dungeon master
yeah, I think thatās the rule as wellā¦ Amiga had hardware 2D whereas most DOS games were all software, so DOS games generally looked worse prior to ~1990 (remember that DOS as a gaming platform was almost strictly 32 bit, 16 bit gaming computers were macs and commodores) and potentially more garish not long thereafter
amiga lemmings had a 2-player mode that the dos version didnāt
Cannon Fodder (mostly the audio is better on Amiga)
i have no idea what this means
yeah thatās fair it seems arbitrary as stated
what I meant by it was that, even though DOS theoretically existed as a gaming platform in the 80s alongside cheaper, non-IBM-compatible PCs that technically had slower CPUs than the fastest 16-bit x86 CPU, a 286, DOS gaming as itās remembered was basically negligible before the widespread availability of 386s (and the release of the 486), and so in practice, what people think of as DOS games were like a full generation ahead of Amiga games
local arcade just posted on facebook that they just got this in. seems like an absurdly rare and difficult to get ahold of item for the north of england. how likely is it that itās legit?
Unsure if itās legit but honestly that rules even if itās not legit
tear it open
